Message re Coach Tony Gleeson
by
Our 2019/20 Premiership coach, Tony Gleeson, has advised that he is not in a position to continue the appointment into next season.
Tony had to make significant concessions to his work and home commitments to carry out the role last season, including imposing on work colleagues to swing shifts, and is not able to continue that juggling act.
The season also saw the hassle of moving into and fitting out a new home, and a significant reduction in the capacity of Tony and Nicole to enjoy their holiday home.
We will be advertising for a new coach shortly.
Tony, a hundred-game player and past executive member at Moonee Valley, will play a role in the identification, interview and appointment of our new coach.
He will also continue to train and play some games for Moonee Valley – but this time to a schedule that fits in with his other commitments.
Tony is mindful of ensuring there is no perception of his presence interfering with whoever is appointed his successor, but has expressed an interest in the ongoing development of our juniors and assisting in other areas of the club.
On behalf of the Moonee Valley Cricket Club players and supporters, I thank Tony for his significant contribution to the wonderful 2019/20 season which culminated in the First Eleven premiership.
Tony answered our call when we were relegated at the end of 2018/19, and he was determined to ensure that we won promotion straight away. Mission accomplished.
This was Tony’s second term of coaching Moonee Valley – and both have resulted in First Eleven premierships.
I am sad that we have lost a coach, but thankful for Tony’s immediate impact and the fact that he will continue to make a significant contribution to Moonee Valley going forward.
Charlie Walker.
President, MVCC
