Moonee Valley Cricket - update

Greetings Moonee Valley players and supporters.

We had an unusual finish to the season, and the situation hasn't changed since then as Australia and the world go through unprecedented times.

Our senior Presentation Night - initially booked for April 18 - has been cancelled due to the coronavirus social restrictions. We're planning on staging it as a pre-season event for 2020/21, but no-one really knows if we'll be out of lockdown before then.

The cricket winter comp is also up in the air. It was cancelled some weeks ago, and there's no indication whether it will get on for 2020.

The VTCA has confirmed that Moonee Valley has won promotion to the next Division as a result of our First Eleven premiership win - so both Firsts and Seconds are going up.

But who knows what next season will even look like? Cricket and football are jockeying for season dates at both national and state level, so there's some prospect of a football incursion into the spring and summer months if we believe what we're reading in the media.

Certainly, uncertain times.

From a club point of view, our financial year as per our constitution finishes on May 31. That's when we close off the books, and prepare the financials and the annual report. We'd expect the Annual General Meeting to be in July or August - but that's still dependent on the state of the pandemic.

Regardless, the committee is planning towards next season.

So it's probably timely to inquire if any of our members are interested in joining the committee for next season - or whether anyone is contemplating running for a position on the executive.

If we do look a chance to have some new faces and new ideas, we'd be keen to know early so we can all get involved in the planning for 2020/21.
