200 Up for Mickster - one of Moonee Valley's most
popular players
The tributes were flowing along with the drinks when popular clubman Michael "Mickster" Cumbo completed his 200th game at Moonee Valley.
The February 18 celebration coincided with several functions that had been in the pipeline at Ormond Park, and so Mickster had plenty of Life Members and past players on hand to help commemorate the milestone, along with the current players.
At right: The fingers are pointing at Michael "Mickster" Cumbo in his 200th game.
Ormond Park was already buzzing as the two home teams on the day - the Firsts and the Sixths - completed big wins, but Mickster was the instant centre of attention when he returned from his away game with the Fifths.
Mickster has been a credit to our club since he first pulled on the whites in the 2000/01 season, and he's compiled more than 2000 runs and taken 24 wickets since.
Not too many players anywhere can match his triple - a century, a hat-trick and a premiership.
Along the way Mickster has helped coaching and training juniors and is a constant cleaning up around the clubrooms.
His milestone is a credit to him - and we expect it's likely that it will be rewarded with Life Membership come Presentation Night on April 22.
Mickster isn't the only Valley player to hit a significant target in the past couple of weeks - Dean Jukic reached his 4000th run, Channa DeSilva reached 2000 runs and Geoff Smith brought up 1000 runs.
Jesse Nankivell-Sandor played his 150th game and Neil King brought up his 50th wicket. And on the day of Mickster's milestone, Paul Bannister took his 50th senior wicket and Samuel Fontana ripped Northern Lions apart with 5/21.
Things are looking good at the Valley!
THE CARDS FALL RIGHT FOR OUR DAN
Senior cricketer Daniel Comande proved to be the sharpest card in the pack at the Moonee Valley Cricket Club's annual poker tournament, taking out the first prize.
Daniel held his nerve as players were eliminated and when we got down to the final table of eight.
As Troy Eden, Darren Nagle, Michael Felle and Ryan Fairclough were beaten, Daniel held sway. And after Dominic Rettino and Michael Ozbun went out, it was head-to-head at the end between Daniel and Dean Coxall.

It was an excellent night and a good fundraiser, involving Moonee Valley players, past players, junior parents, friends of members and friends from the bowling club.
The MVCC Life Members catered for the function, so thanks to people such as Bob Sciacchitano, Joe Ansaldo, John Talone, Sandro Capocchi and a host of others for their excellent support.
The tournament, named in honor of Life Member, the late Peter "PG" Gardiner, is a major fundraiser for our club.
VALLEY SUPPORT FOR PINK STUMPS DAY
Moonee Valley Cricket Club showed its support for Pink Stumps Day and breast cancer awareness on the February 17-19 weekend.
Starting with the Under 12s and Under 14s on Friday night, we played with the pink stumps as part of the McGrath Foundation campaign to raise awareness and money.
The support carried over into the Saturday, with both the First Eleven and the Sixths using the pink stumps and pink pads at Ormond Park. We finished off with the Fourths at home on the Sunday.
The three senior home sides all won.

Moonee Valley committed to raise at least $500 for the McGrath Foundation as part of the campaign, and we're confident we'll have exceeded that target once all the money it totalled up.
Our promotion included pink champagne for the ladies on the Saturday, and fundraising and donations throughout the weekend and the weeks leading up.
REDS CLEANED UP IN ONE FELLE SWOOP
Reds were entitled to think they had their match against the Moonee Valley Thirds sewn up at Ormond Park on February 5 - four wickets in hand, 22 runs to get and 14 runs to do it in.
But they hadn't counted on Jesse Felle coming back into the attack.
Four balls later, Reds' 6/105 became 105 all out, as Jesse compiled the first-ever senior double hat-trick in Moonee Valley's history.
He removed the danger man LBW with his first ball, then hit the stumps with his next two. Last man in exited via a plumb LBW, and it was game over for the shell-shocked Reds.
Jesse's figures read 5 overs, 2 maidens, 4 for 2. His sensational over to some extent overshadows the other key bowlers in Matt Esmore and Paul Bannister, who each took 2/27.

But Jesse Felle's efforts are no flash in the pan. He's had sustained success at a batsman and a bowler throughout his 153 senior games at Moonee Valley, after starting with our club as a junior in 1998.
So far this season Jesse has taken 22 wickets at an average of 9.55, and in the previous round took 6/41 across two innings.
He's hit 400 runs at an average of 36.36, including 96 in his 150th game. For many seasons Jesse toiled away with bat and ball in our hard-wicket grades, but three seasons ago took the plunge and moved up to our turf grades. His recent performances show that he's just as devastating playing turf.
Prior to this season, Jesse had scored 2182 senior runs - 41st highest in club history - and taken 289 wickets - eighth-most of all time.
