Paddy's great run comes to an end
The dream run of our Sixths couldn't quite get us over the line in the Grand Final, but the season was a magnificent one for Paddy Shelton and his crew.
The target set by Airport West St Christophers in the March 18 match at home at Ormond Park provided a bit too stiff - but wasn't helped by controversial catch decisions which went against our two set batsmen, skipper Paddy and top-scorer Liam Shaw.
The match meant something extra to the Valley boys, wearing black armbands to honor the memory of one of their original crew, Alex Ross, marking the second anniversary of his death in an accident.
Paddy has done a sterling job in pulling together a group of players who had either dropped out of cricket or had a waning interest, and turning them into an excitement machine.
His popularity was apparent with the crowd who came to watch the Sixths in action - players who'd pulled on the whites for one or a handful of games with the team during the season, friends, partners and workmates.
It spells well for next season. Paddy, we're proud of you!
