Valley juniors for 2017/18
by Peter Pickering
Moonee Valley Cricket Club is already planning for the new season 2017-2018.
MVCC Juniors:
I am again the junior co-ordinator, so I will be organising the general running of the junior program with the assistance of both Leigh Holder and Channa DeSilva as well as members of the senior club.
I look forward to working with our very keen parent group so we can have another good year on and off the field. As well the onfield involvement, we will see the beginning of the work which will transform our clubrooms over the next 12 months.
Teams:
Based on similar registrations as last year, and allowing for current players moving through the age groups, we think that the club will be fielding two teams each in U10s, U12s and U14s.
All teams will continue to play on Friday nights to maximise the opportunity to play for the Club without interfering with other weekend commitments such as school sport.
Those players who have moved beyond the U14s and would otherwise qualify for an U16 team will again be given the opportunity to play with the MVCC Colts team, which is made up of experienced senior players and up-and-coming juniors U16 and older. This was a great success in 2016-2017.
Coaches:
Leigh Holder will coach the senior U14 team and I will coach the junior U14s, while Channa is going to coach the senior U12s.
We will be looking for expressions of interest for coaching the junior U12s and U10s, and will be letting everyone know about that when the pre-season training commences.
Preseason training:
Following the success of the junior clinic in January, this season will commence with a junior clinic run by the seniors on Sunday morning 27 August 2017 from 9.30-11.30am.
The first training will be in the week commencing 4 September. At this stage, training will be on the same nights as last year, ie. Mondays for U10s and Wednesdays for U12s and U14s, but this will be confirmed subject to the work commitments of the various coaches.
Junior pre-season training will continue in the weeks commencing 4, 18 and 25 September, then break for school holidays before resuming in the first week of Term 4, 9 October.
Registration:
This year registration day will be on 6 August and will be held at the MVCC Club rooms at 4.30-5.30pm. The registration fee will remain fixed at $250, so there has been no change in the last three seasons. Similarly, the rate for two players will remain at $400, and there are discounts available for healthcare and concession holders.
This subscription covers all expenses including insurance, and each player will receive a new MVCC shirt and cap for the season.
Email Registration:
The majority of registrations last year were by email, as it can be inconvenient for families to make it to registration day. To provide an added incentive to register this way and register early, all players who are registered by email on or before 6 August will only be charged $225 (or $375 for two), a saving of $25.
All you have to do is complete the attached form, scan it and email it back to me on pjp@vicbar.com.au then make the payment to the MVCC bank account: BSB 633-108 Acc 138449160
If you could also put the preferred shirt size on the form or email, that will help us get the orders in early.
Looking forward to seeing you all for the new season. Here's the registration form.
Go Valleys!
