The Ian Denny Cup

                             
Moonee Valley Cricket Club took out the silver medal in the Ian Denny Cup - the annual Twenty/20 cricket match between MV Cricket and MV Football.
It's the second year in a row that we've had a podium finish in the keenly-contested event.
The Ian Denny Cup, honoring a legend of both football and cricket, was revived last year after it lapsed for a number of seasons.
But now, with a big modern pavilion which both clubs are able to share, there's great co-operation and co-ordination.
We don't know the final score - there was a liberal amount of licence taken with the scorebook on the occasions it was filled in - but it's fair to say there was a bit of skulduggery. How else do you account for the number of 8s that the footy boys scored?
And our Steve Esmore got bricked by the umpire, who was determined to call his every ball a wide.
However, some encouraging performances gleaned from what was meant to constitute a scorecard were Michael Ozbun with 23, Jack Newman with 21, Zac Nilsson with 20no and Andreas Skiotis with two wickets.
The two teams weren't exactly strangers, as at least five of the footballers had played junior cricket at Moonee Valley before concentrating on their winter sport.
But the March 2 game was played in good fun, and was followed by a barbecue organised by Dom Rettino. Not to mention the subsidised beers organised by Life Member Ian Denny.
