Moonee Valley Cricket - September update

by Charlie Walker

We’re starting to get a clearer picture on what’s possible for the 2020/21 cricket season, so we should start preparing.

If Victoria meets the targets established in the Victorian Government’s roadmap out of COVID-19, we are looking at commencing training – probably in limited group sizes – in the week beginning October 26.

The Victorian Turf Cricket Association – our Firsts and Seconds – are aiming for a season start on November 21, with all games planned as one-dayers.

Mercantile – our Thirds and Fourths – are looking to a season start on November 14. Our Thirds and Fourths are in one-day grades.

The North West Metro Cricket Association – our Fifths and Sixths – are aiming for a start on November 14, with fixtures to be all one-day games.

Juniors are due to start the same time.

We have entered a Seventh team again – a Sunday grade – but will not finalise the entry unless we get confirmed numbers.

We’re also confident of women’s cricket returning to Moonee Valley for the first time since 2010/11, and are planning on a resumption on Sunday, November 15.

While we’re working towards a return to training from October 26, it is expected there will be significant restrictions on access to our rooms, while there will be a range of requirements on players, volunteers and others.

The NWMCA has been progressive in getting out messages to clubs, and much of its advice applies equally to cricket across all associations. It’s worth having a look and listen to the September video from NWMCA President Peter Bryceson and Administrator Bill Maddern. See it here on https://youtu.be/X9aznjmm0J8

We have organised brand new clothing for this season to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Moonee Valley Cricket Club, with advice on availability and pricing to be released in the next couple of weeks. You will be able to order this direct from the club so that your gear is ready for the season start.
