Moonee Valley: Calling all dads

by

The Moonee Valley Cricket Club is calling on dads - and mums - to pull on the whites and resume - or start - a career as cricketers.

Numbers are tight for our Sixth Eleven, and we're keen to recruit some parents who support their sons and daughters in the juniors.

Our Sixth Eleven is captained by Under 14s dad Doug Cumming, and he's keen to get greater parental involvement onfield in his team.

The most ready focus is dads, but we have had mums play games in our lower elevens in past seasons, so we're not limiting our recruiting drive to the one gender.

Any dads, mums or family friends who sign up won't be limited to our lowest-grade team if they want to push up the ranks.

Across last season we fielded 18 parents of juniors, or whose sons or daughters had come through juniors, so anyone who comes on board won't need to think they're alone.

Club Treasurer Peter Golding, who was the wicketkeeper in our Second Eleven premiership last season, was one retired player who answered the call several years back when we went on a recruiting drive for dads.

So parents, get on board, pull on the whites and join Doug Cumming and some of our other dads in an onfield role. We're sure you'll enjoy it.

Anyone interested should ring Club President Charlie Walker on 0409 237 543 or Sixths captain Doug Cumming on  0409 784 238.
