Major milestone for a Valley legend

Ian DennyIan, 44, (right) has had limited opportunities to play over the past couple of seasons due to family commitments, but the one-day game against Royal Park Reds will be his 250th for the club.

“Eggbert”, who has made more runs than any other Moonee Valley player (8835) and taken more wickets than anyone else (562) will be the first MVCC player to reach the 250-game milestone.

A life member and seven-time Premiership player, Ian has won every Club award possible and won key best-in-comp titles

Club president Darren Nagle said it would be an historic moment for the club and for Denny, and it was fitting that he would have a big crowd to celebrate the milestone with after the game at the MVCC Christmas party.

The Sevenths match will showcase a lot of talent, experience and history for Moonee Valley, with more than 1000 games represented on the field.

Club stalwart and No. 2 on both the most-games and most-runs lists, Mick Harvey, tried to arrange his work commitments to also make a comeback and share Ian’s day, but couldn't. One player who was available to come briefly out of retirement was Greg Peters, a life member and  the captain of six of our club premierships.

Other stalwarts selected in Ian’s milestone game are current long-serving players Joe Ansaldo (195-plus games), Bob Sciacchitano (187 games), Jim McKenzie (186 games) and Paul Nicol (120-plus games).

“I urge anyone who is available to come to the Sevenths’ home ground at Clifton Park in Victoria St Brunswick to celebrate Ian’s milestone,” Darren Nagle said.

“It would be wonderful if any of our junior players and parents – the young players who are our club’s future – could come along for the occasion.

“Any of the players from the other senior grades who finish early should also come across to see part of our history.

“And I urge as many people as possible to come to the Christmas party so they can also enjoy the occasion with our greatest-ever player.”
