A Hun-derful Night at the New Dungeon
The big Attila-ry was on show at the Moonee Valley Cricket Club at our Christmas party, with legendary 1970s Melbourne band Attila & the Panelbeaters coming out of retirement to play a gig.
Shown here playing are (from left) Moonee Valley's own Phill King, Dom the K, front man Craig Horne and Squid.
The New Dungeon match pavilion was rocking like it rarely has done so before, when the band took to the stage after the drawing of the prizes in our big Christmas raffle.
Moonee Valley Cricket Club was honoured to host the December 16 gig, which was made possible by our very own Phill King – who was guitarist with the group when he still had long hair. Phill really relished his return to the big stage.
With frontman Craig Horne, Geoff Hyman on drums, Squid on guitar, Dom the K on bass and Phill with his frenetic guitar, Attila & the Panelbeaters performed many of their iconic hits, including I Hate The Trees. Craig’s son Alex filled in on drums whenever Geoff needed a break.
The New Dungeon was rocking both inside and out as the big crowd warmed to the performance. Club president Sandro Capocchi said the performance was a definite talking point among the players.
“We all agreed that Attila & the Panelbeaters really made the night and provided a great atmosphere for all of us to relax, unwind and enjoy a drink amongst friends on the night,” Sandro said. “The boys are welcome any time to come down to the club.”
The main prize in the Christmas raffle – the $500 cash – was won by juniors parent Ian Ross. Ian’s son Sean won us the $1000 equipment prize from Rebel Sport at the start of the season.
The night also gave us the opportunity to celebrate Matt Gauci’s 211 not out, which he made at our home ground that afternoon, playing in the Fourth Eleven. It is the second-highest score ever made for our club.
The night also gave us the chance to celebrate the 100th game of Mark “Junior” Cini and 50th game of Shane Comino.
