OUR LADIES DAY 2024 - A BIG EVENT

Moonee Valley turned on the charm for our Ladies Day 2024 event - a fine meal catered by the Moonee Ponds Club, a selection of fine drinks and plenty of entertainment for the people who deserve recognition for their role in helping make our club great.
Guest speaker Gabby Seymour with members of our women's cricket team: L-R Sridevi Thoppe, Sarah Fenn, Sandra Verschoor, Gabby Seymour, Tara Newman, Jane Greenshields, Tanya Intagliata and Katherine Baker. We had past and present players from our women's cricket team, partners and children of past and present players and other supporters of our great club.

The February 3 guests were given an inspirational speech by current Richmond AFLW vice-captain Gabby Seymour, who was a national level volleyball player before turning to football.
More than three dozen raffle prizes were up for grabs - all donated.
Many thanks to MVCC committee member and First Eleven captain Jack Newman for his drive in making our annual Ladies Day a success.

THANKS TO OUR VALLEY SPONSORS

Moonee Valley Cricket Club values our sponsors, and showed our appreciation with a special function at our Ormond Park pavilion on February 11.
One of our key sponsors - Nelson Alexander Real Estate partner Sam Carbone (left) with First Eleven player Chand Shrestha.A good crowd of sponsors, Life Members and other members and supporters enjoyed an excellent barbecue and a well-stocked bar and were entertained by watching Day 2 of our First Eleven clash with Melton South.

Moonee Valley had already secured first innings points and Day 1, and our guests saw a tight battle as Melton South dug in and ultimately avoided getting rolled outright.
Many thanks to our Sponsorship Manager Domenic Gibaldi for his work in organising the day and acting as an excellent host for our sponsors and other guests.

OUR POLA - HE'S JIMPLY THE BEST

Moonee Valley Cricket Club legend Jim Polonidis joined rare and exalted company on January 28 when he became just the fifth player in our history to reach 350 games.
The team which represented Moonee Valley for Jim Polonidis' 350th game: L-'R. Back - Dean Jukic, Chand Shrestha, Sam Carbone, Rhys McDonald, Jim Polonidis, Prashant Hirani, Mark Gauci, Amolak Singh Saini and Eddie Wadera. Front - Sagar Bhatia and Maks Rahman. The milestone snuck up on us - we were expecting Jim to reach it in a fortnight as he was playing game 349 in the current round in the Seconds, but ever the clubman, he answered the call when the Thirds were short and doubled up the next day.

Jim joins Danny Terzini on 350 games, and there is only club royalty in front of him - Mark Gauci, Ian Denny and Darren Nagle.
Jim has made more than 4500 runs and sits second on our all-time wicket list with more than 460 scalps. A magnificently consistent bowler, it was fitting that Jim took the first wicket in his milestone match, played at home.
A miserly bowler, Jim has been named in our Wisden Team of the Year six times in the 16 years we have been selecting it.
Jim's late wife Tien was one of our women's team pioneers, playing 46 games. She passed away in 2021. Their daughter Lexi often accompanies Jim to Ormond Park for matches and functions.

Well done Stephen Ward - 150 games.One-fifties up for

Jack & Wardy

Congratulations to Jack Newman and Stephen Ward on their 150th games for Moonee Valley on the February 3 weekend.
At right: Well done Stephen Ward - 150 games.
Wardy brought up his milestone playing at home in the Fifths, while First Eleven skipper Jack completed a memorable milestone with a come-from-behind win to grab top spot on the ladder.
Both Jack and Stephen have made significant contributions to our Club.
Wardy was the driving force in getting our winter comp teams off the ground in 2014 and was our inaugural skipper, as well captaining the Seconds into the finals.
Wardy ticked over 2000 runs earlier this season, demonstrating his capacity with the bat, and is as a bowler is always taking it up to the opposition bats, with around 160 wickets to his name.
He's a leader around our club and is a significant presence on the training track, both leading by example and helping train and develop the other players with skills and physical fitness.
Jack Newman is no slouch with the bat - even though he brings himself in lower down the order.Jack is in his sixth season as First Eleven captain even though he's still only 24, and Moonee Valley took out the 2019/20 flag under his leadership.
Jack is just outside the top 20 senior wicket-takers of all time at Moonee Valley despite his youth, and his current aggregate of just under 2000 runs probably reflects his decision to bat well down the order.

Jack has been at Moonee Valley since coming down as a toddler in the Under 10s, and with his combined senior and junior games and his leadership at the club has been honored with Life Membership.
Congratulations Jack and Stephen - you are both real leaders of our Club.
