Valley scoops the pool at NWCA awards

Our Moonee Valley juniors scooped the pool at the NWCA junior presentation night, which we hosted at the bowls club rooms at Ormond Park on Thursday, April 3.
As well as our three junior premiership flags – the most of any club in the North West Cricket Association – four Moonee Valley players won individual awards.
There were a couple of clubs which had five individual award winners, but Moonee Valley’s combined tally of flags and awards – seven – was again more than any other club.
And it follows on from our excellent 2006/07 season, when we again were up near the top of the tree with two flags and five individual awards.

Our Moonee Valley junior program, and particularly our junior players, have a lot to be proud of.
We had 168 players who represented Moonee Valley in junior ranks in the 2007/08 season, across 14 teams. And 58 of those youngsters were first-time cricketers for Moonee Valley.
As well as our three junior flags, we had more teams in semi-finals and grand finals than any other club – with seven of our 10 eligible teams making the semis, and four of them winning through to the grand finals.
Our premiership winners were:
- Steve Malone’s Under 14 Gold, which won the F Grade Premiership over St Andrews.
Jim Morton’s Under 12 White, which tied the D Grade Grand Final with Craigieburn.
David Carew’s Under 12 Gold, which won the G Grade Grand Final over West Coburg.
- *Daniel Comande from our Under 14 Green team, who won the H Grade bowling award with 15 wickets @ 5.67. (Daniel - right).
*Emily Wilson, who won the Under 14 Girls bowling award with 15 wickets @ 7.13.
*Kurtis Tankard from our Under 12 Black team, who won the B Grade bowling award with 15 wickets @ 9.07.
*Guy Walker, who won the Don Hudson Award (for the second year running) in Under 12s for his performance representing the NWCA in the Mitchell Shield competition.
“Congratulations also to all the players across all grades and age groups who have represented Moonee Valley this season,” he said.
“We gauge premierships as a measure of achievement for our players - not as our measure of success.
“We gauge success as young men and women engaging in sport and representing their club in cricket, and in ensuring that players of all abilities have the opportunity to play the game.
“While Premierships and individual awards are very satisfying and a measure of achievement for an excellent season, we believe we have achieved success in 2007/08 because we have met our criteria in providing sporting opportunities for some 170 young people.
“That is the true measure of the success of our season.”
Our Under 14 Premiers receive their flag and medals: L-R: Coach Steve Malone, James Webster, Rohan Sheils, team manager Kevin Memery, Nathan Koulouris, William Lenz, Tom Memery, Benn Martiniello, Daniel Gorham, Robert Bryant, Matthew Digiovine, Liam Curran and Chris Saragias.
