T20 Grand Final a close thing

by

(At left: Opening bowler Nasir Ahmed).

Moonee Valley won its way into the North West's Twenty20 Grand Final on February 16, but couldn't pull off the victory.

We comfortably won our Preliminary Final against Flemington on the morning of the Grand Final, reeling in the score of 159 just four wickets down and with nearly five overs in the bank.

But the afternoon game against Merlynston Hadfield was harder going. We lost wickets at regular intervals on our way to posting a score of 9/98. It was a competitive total on the big Hillside Football Ground oval, considering the wide boundaries and lush outfield.

Merlynston passed us with just a couple of overs to go.

It was Moonee Valley's fourth Grand Final appearance in the NWMCA's Twenty20 competition, and we have won two flags from our participation.

The guys were disappointed with the result, but we're proud of them.
Our team: (L-R) Back - Dean Lawson, Kris Garland, Matt Thomas and Michael Ozbun. Middle - Dan Comande, Khalid Hassan, Adam Patchell, Ben Thomas, Pat Felmingham and Mark Gauci. At front is speedster Nasir Ahmed.
