Spider's runner-up in the curator Brownlow

by

Moonee Valley's hard-working curator, Ian "Spider" Beel, was narrowly pipped in the "Curator's Brownlow" awards in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association this season.

The results, announced at the VTCA presentation night on April 8, saw Spider finish with 9.40 on the votes of umpires and captains, just shaded by the Old Mentonians curator in the Curator of the Year title.

Third and fourth spots were filled by cuators from other southern clubs.

Not surprisingly, Spider won the North Division Curator of the Year award.

If there was a curator's award for our wickets in the Moreland Moonee Valley Cricket Association, Spider would have won hands-down.

Ian's Ormond Park wicket was used for the C Turf grand final between St Francis and St Andrews, and the game went down to the wire on the fourth and final day.

At the MMVCA delegates meeting on April 11, Association president Dave Lyons paid tribute to the quality of the strip, and said it was the best wicket he had seen prepared for many years.

Spider, congratulations on a great job.
