Shiva's stunning spell turns the match
Moonee Valley's Shiva Chhabra became the 27th player in our history to take a senior hat-trick when he bowled the Fourths to victory against Thornbury Turf Strokers. Shiva, in his first season at Moonee Valley, took a wicket off the last ball of his eighth over. The first ball of his final over clean-bowled the batsman, and the hat-trick ball was snicked through to keeper Vansh Tandon to leave Thornbury nine down in the November 2 match. They had been still a chance at 6/94 chasing our 140 before Shiva was thrown the ball for the last three overs of his allocation. At right: Shiva Chhabra - a hat-trick in the Fourths. For good measure, Shiva took the catch when ended Thornbury's innings, all out for 106. Shiva now has seven wickets at 11.29 this season. It was also a milestone match for teen Luke Sevenson, still Under 16-eligible, who scored his maiden 50. And Fourths skipper Manu Singh, a two-time Premiership captain at Moonee Valley, played his 100th game. To cap off the milestones in the match, Pat Taylor scored 11 runs to take him past 1000 for the club and into the select group of Triple Crown players - those who have played 100 games, taken 100 wickets and scored 1000 runs. Moonee Valley players have scored 28 senior hat-tricks - Ian Denny has two - and Shiva's feat was the first since Jordy Walsh in the Seconds in the final round last season. Congratulations all round!
