Postcode Pete's 300th wicket
by
Club stalwart Peter "Postcode" Smith brought up his 300th Moonee Valley wicket on the February 3/4 weekend, snaring two scalps in the Fifths win over Royal Park Reds on the Saturday and backing up with a wicket in the Sevenths on the Sunday.
Postcode, who has played as high as the Seconds and has been the man behind the sandwich slicer for the best part of a decade, has been with Moonee Valley since 2001/02, notching up 195 games in the process.
Fittingly, his 300th wicket was taken with a catch by his brother, Geoff. A slow bowler who throws it up, Pete regularly bamboozles the opposition with his flight and kick off the deck. Many happy returns.
And in another significant effort on the same weekend, Peter Golding (right) opened the innings and carried his bat in the Thirds. He so impressed the Indigos opposition that they took some video as he reached his 50.
Peter's batting skills and ability to bring up the red ink belies his regular position down the order. He now has two 50s for Moonee Valley - both not-outs.
