Our women win in their season debut We might have been pushed up two divisions after our women's team won back-to-back premierships in Division 5, but our 2022/23 season started the same way our previous season finished - a good win. The season start was pushed back a fortnight by the NWMCA due to sodden grounds and washed-out training sessions, but Moonee Valley's girls hit the ground running when the umpire was finally able to call play. At right: A good win in our season opener: L-R. Back - Sandra Verschoor, Sarah Fenn, coach Darren Nagle and senior coach Wasim Abbas. Front - Jayda Young, Yasmin King, Tara Newman, Kelsie Armstrong and Charli D'Ambrosio. We were put in to bat in our Division 3 debut by Flemington Colts - who were promoted from Division 4 - on the all-synthetic ground at Holland Park in Kensington. Moonee Valley had a couple of new players to go with the experienced hands from past seasons, and our new girls fitted in straight away. We compiled a very solid 5/111 off our 20 overs, with captain Tara Newman top-scoring with 32no. We then bowled Flemington out in 16.5 overs for 55. We were clinical in the field, with three run-outs - including direct hits from Tara Newman and Sarah Fenn, Sandra Verschoor took 1/1 off three overs and Charli D'Ambrosio took her maiden wicket for the Valley. Coach Darren Nagle was very pleased with our season start in the higher grade - so bring on the next game.
