Our Wardy makes the Victorian team

by

Stephen Ward - to play cricket for Victoria.Stephen Ward, the Moonee Valley Second Eleven captain and skipper of our winter team, has made the Victorian team for the second year running.

Wardy was the driving force behind Moonee Valley's entry into the Mid Year Cricket Association for this winter season, and selection in the Victorian team is a fitting reward for him.

Victoria has two teams playing against NSW winter representative teams this Sunday, and Wardy has been picked in the First Eleven.

The rapidly-growing Mid Year Cricket Association has 46 teams across five divisions this year, so Wardy's selection is a great credit to his diligence and dedication to his sport.

He played winter cricket for Strathmore Heights when he was selected to play for Victoria in 2012, but worked hard at the end of our last summer season to ensure that Moonee Valley had the numbers to have its own MYCA team so he could play year-round with his beloved Black & White.

And in another coup, the State games are being played at Fairbairn Park in Ascot Vale. Fairbairn Park has been the home of several Moonee Valley summer teams in past seasons, and we have Fairbairn No. 8 as our home ground for this winter.

The games are being played this Sunday, so Moonee Valley players and supporters are encouraged to go down to Fairbairn, in Woods St. Ascot Vale, to see one of our own playing for his State.

The June 9 match starts at 10.30am, and is expected to finish in time for presentations at the Anglers Tavern from about 4.30.
