Our newest hat-trick taker - James Thorneycroft

by

Hat-trick to James Thorneycroft

James Thorneycroft became the 16th Moonee Valley player to take a senior hat-trick when he rolled three Burnside Springs players in succession on November 5.

Playing with Danny Terzini’s Sixths, James finished with match figures of seven overs, three maidens, 4/8 as he knocked over the top order.

Burnside Springs did not recover, posting 9/101 off its 35 overs while Moonee Valley rattled off the replay in just 23 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Our last six hat-trick takers have come since the start of the 2006/07 season, so there is a heavy weighting of current players who have brought up the unique milestone.

Interestingly, there were half a dozen Moonee Valley hat-trick takers sitting around with James on the night of his effort to help his celebrate the achievement.

They were Michael Cumbo (2003/04), Tim Fisher (2006/07), Beau Velona (2008/09), Jesse Nankivell-Sandor (Under 16s 2003/04), Bede Gannon (Under 14s 2004/05, Under 16s 2005/06) and Craig Pridham (2009/10).

It’s rare to get so many achievers of a cricket bowler’s highest accolade sitting around in the one group.

James joined Moonee Valley in the juniors in 2007, and has now played 30 games in the seniors.
