Our first message from our new President
by
Well the new cricket season is nearly upon us, and for the first time in many seasons our AGM has seen a ‘changing of the guard’ so to speak – with the retirements of a couple of stalwarts and an influx of some fresh faces.
Firstly, on behalf of the club executive, committee and members, I would like to thank outgoing President Darren Nagle for his outstanding contribution and commitment he has made to OUR CLUB over the last 13 seasons. Spud, your dedication to the job will be remembered always and your reign has given the club an enviable position amongst our rivals both on and off the field. And while you have stepped down as President, it’s great that you have no plans to hang up the whites.
Also to Tony Gleeson, thanks for a fantastic contribution over the last few years in the difficult role as Treasurer. Your hard work, dedication and above all integrity will surely give the incoming committee a far easier job than when you took over… Well-done mate.
It would be remiss of me not to mention the work my great mate John Talone did to take this Club to the levels of where it sits at the moment. ‘Odie’, your contribution to our club ranks alongside that of Spud’s, and you should be extremely proud of what you have achieved as Secretary….. Well done mate.
So it is with great excitement that I introduce the new committee for the upcoming season. Firstly, we welcome club stalwart Jim Polonidis as Vice-President. Jim is a smart operator who will be a more-than-capable 2IC this season.
Peter Fenaughty takes on the role of Treasurer, a role he has held with success with Moonee Valley’s junior football section. Good to have you along for the ride Pete.
Kevin Gardiner has come on board as Equipment Manager, but in reality that will be only a small part of what Kev will bring to the table and I look forward to utilizing his many talents in the day-to-day running of the Club.
Paul Comino is another long-time player, but first-time committee member that has put his hand up for the Assistant Treasurer’s role. Your help and input is sure to be of value Paul, thanks mate.
Michael Felle continues in the demanding role of Secretary and I’m sure the hard work he put in last season will make this season a tad easier my friend.
Charlie Walker continues in the Junior Coordinator-Grant Finder-Recruiter-All round nice guy-Jack of all Trades position this season.. Seriously Charlie, you remind me of Lou Richards at Channel 9 mate, you can walk around and do whatever takes your fancy mate!!! That’s how valuable your are and have been to our Club.
Adele Walker will continue as Canteen Manager, a role she did fantastically last season. Now that I’m President, I’m hoping it pulls a few favors with my tab Adele!!
We still have vacancies for Sponsorship Manager and Social Manager, so anyone interested in joining the committee should ring me on 0405 956 185.
For the upcoming season, we have appointed Vikash Chand as Senior Coach. Vik is a seasoned player that not only brings a refreshing enthusiasm to the position, but on field his express pace will be a major factor in the success of our First XI. Stay tuned for an imminent signing of an assistant coach as well.
We are also in negotiations with the MMVCA regarding the playing of our 3rdXI on turf this season. Home games would be on a Sunday on our Ormond Park turf table, which, combined with our Friday night juniors, would give us three days of cricket being played at our home ground on most weeks. Pre-season training for the seniors will commence around the 8th of August, but a member mailout prior to then will confirm all dates and places.
Well that’s about all I need to say at the minute. Please feel free to contact any committee members with any queries you might have. Contact details are available on our website: http://archive.mooneevalleycricket.com.au Please let any other players and members who don’t have email know about this communication. It will also be posted on the News pages on our website.
Look forward to seeing you all at pre-season training, which I’m sure will lead to an exciting and successful season ahead.
Regards
Sandro ‘Sambo’ Capocchi.
