Nick's in good nick

by Charlie Walker

Congratulations to Moonee Valley's Nick Brelis for the way he has represented our Club in the Mercantile Cricket Association.
When Mercantile was calling for player nominations for its Under 21 representative team in the Wright Shield, Nick answered the call.
With his sharp bowling and ability to swing the ball both ways, Nick was thrown the red cherry at the start of the innings in each of his games.
He returned a tight 1/19 from his first game, then tore through the best young talent of the South East Cricket Association in his second match for the excellent figures of 5/41.
And given that Nick's just 18 and has three more seasons in Under 21, it's no wonder that Mercantile is excited - and has pencilled him in as an integral long-term part of their rep team through that period.
Nick has been rewarded for his excellent returns at Under 21 level by being selected in the senior Mercantile team for the big annual Willowfest cricket carnival at Mildura, leaving on Boxing Day.
While Nick has been batting down the order in the Under 21 teams, he's done his chances of promotion no harm from his 31 on December 22, when he top scored for the Thirds in their gallant loss at home.
The Reds keeper who had an eagle-eye view of Nick's innings was Alec Kahn, the Mercantile match secretary and captain of the Willowfest team.
With Alec's keen appraisal, we could see Nick elevated in the order.
Congratulations Nick. You're doing Moonee Valley proud.
