Moonee Valley's on the right path
Moonee Valley Cricket Club players/officials Tony Gleeson (left) and Domenic Chiera admire their handiwork at Moonee Ponds Central School.
Moonee Valley Cricket Club members helped give Moonee Ponds Central School a bit of a make-over on June 24, and put a new path through from the Bent St entrance to the main school building.
The job is part of our annual commitment to projects at Moonee Ponds Central, which is a fertile recruiting ground for many of our junior players, and also provides us the use of the school oval as one of our Under 12 grounds.
The working bee, led by Phill King and Domenic Chiera, and including a group of our dads, engaged a bobcat to dig out a new pathway into the school, and fill it with Lilydale topping. The old pathway is shown at right.
Principal Mary Bluer was on hand to reward the workers with a barbecue lunch.
The school paid for the costs of the materials and the bobcat, and our cricket club provided the labor.
The end result is a more attractive looking and safe path for the students to use. The new path enhances the appearance of the oval.
The school has provided use of its oval for a number of seasons free of charge, and in in response each year the club engages in a project to upgrade or beautify the grounds.
In past years we've helped tidy up the fencelines, put in new seating and redone the cricket nets.
It's a beneficial relationship we have as part of the Moonee Valley Cricket Club's commitment to our local community, and one we hope will continue with the school for many years to come.
