Lou's awesome innings

by

Lou RaffaeleRaining sixes for Lou

Moonee Valley senior coach Lou Raffaele (right) found himself lining up in the Fourths for the season opener at Ormond Park on October 3, and promptly helped re-write the record books.

Lou's innings of 170 was the sixth-highest score recorded by a Valley player in any grade, and included more than 100 runs in shots that cleared the boundary of the eastern matting oval.

The 17 sixes was also a club record for a single innings, eclipsing the 13 bludgeoned by Shane Williams in the Thirds in 1997/98.

Lou's 167-run stand with captain Dan Terzini equalled the fourth wicket record for the Fourths, which had been set by Geoff McKeown and Joe Reitano in 2001/02.

And Lou wasn't the only one to take it up to the Barkly St Uniting attack, as Moonee Valley compiled 7/325 off the 40 overs. Others to get among the runs were Dan Terzini with 42, Pat Felmingham with 40 and Ben Thomas with 22.

Craig PridhamOur team hit a combined 22 sixes - Lou's 17, three from Pat and one each from Ben and from Mark Cini. That set a new record for the Fourths, beating the 14 sixes hit against Coolaroo in 2006/07.

It also set a new Club record across all grades, overtaking the 20 sixes which the Firsts hit against West Coburg in 2000/01.

And for the record, our 7/325 was enough to beat Barkly St Uniting, which compiled 162. Our stars with the ball were Mark Cini with 5/36 and Pat Felmingham with 4/25.

Our Fifths easily accounted for Flemington Colts, and new player Craig Pridham (left), who has come to Moonee Valley via Greenvale, took a five-wicket haul.
