Junior performances - October 25-27 weekend

by Brendan Rhodes

A shortage of numbers at the weekend meant we again finished with our 50/50 record of three wins, three losses and a draw in senior cricket, while the juniors came out with one win, three losses and one bye!

Unfortunately our 7th Grade senior team had to forfeit due to a lack of available numbers for the second week in a row, so if any of you are keen for a game, please let me know as soon possible (by 5pm Tuesday if possible). I believe a few of our regular seniors have school commitments - if your situation has changed, again please let me know because I would hate to leave you out when you are available!

Our 1st Grade Twenty20 team had a thrilling win last Tuesday in a Super Over, and is back on the park tonight (Tuesday, October 29) at 5pm with a home game on the hard wicket against Jacana. Once again I believe we have a barbecue running, so come on down, have a hit, grab a snag and watch some exciting cricket! The canteen (and bar) will be open.

Here's how everyone went at the weekend, with five junior boys playing senior cricket and producing some excellent results.

1st Grade VTCA Twenty20 - T20 - Moonee Valley 125 and 0/3 def Footscray ANA 9/125 and 1/2 in a Super Over. What a game! Anthony Cafari 35 and Dan Comande 31 starred with the bat before Alex McIntyre 4/15 and Shiwantha Kumara 2/17 were outstanding with the ball. Dan Comande conceded only two runs in a matchwinning Super Over. Ladder Position: 2nd

1st Grade - 40 overs - Moonee Valley 9/154 lost to Williamstown Colts 7/199 by 45 runs. The first loss of the season for our top team as they failed to chase a big target. Josh Gorry 3/47 was the best of the bowlers and Ben Thomas 41 and Shiwantha Kumara 33 did well with the bat. Ladder Position: 3rd

2nd Grade - 40 overs - Moonee Valley drew Williamstown Colts. Unfortunately a hole in the covers meant our boys missed out on a game for the second time in three weeks. Ladder Position: 1st

3rd Grade - 45 overs - Moonee Valley 1/159 def Parkville District 80 by 79 runs. A dominant display to get back on the winner's list.  Josh Norsetter picked up 2/10 off 3 overs in a great display. One of our club legends in Dean Jukic took 3/13, including his 300th senior wicket - well done Juka!!!! Sagar Bhatia 2/7 and debutant Sohail Hussain 2/12 were also great. With the bat, Daniel Phillips smashed a sensational 103no before the rain put paid to hopes of an outright win. Ladder Position: 1st

4th Grade - 45 overs - Moonee Valley 78 lost to Power House 4/90 by six wickets. Another tough day at the office with only 10 players after some last minute withdrawals. We stuck at the task and never gave up, which is an attitude that will only bring better results down the track. Jim Polonidis 37 and Bede Gannon 2/30 were the best performers. Ladder Position: 8th

5th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley 4/134 def Gowanbrae 131 by six wickets. A poor start with both ball and bat turned into an easy win for our undefeated Shiners. Cassidy Box turned the game with 5/19, while Dom Rettino led the chase with 56no and Elliott Hughes made 32. Ladder Position: 1st

6th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley 111 lost to Pascoe Vale Central 2/115 by eight wickets. The opposition stacked their team to make it tough for our boys, but we will bounce back! Dejan Gilevski took 0/19 off four overs with the new ball and made 2 runs. Jakob Haskell only conceded one bye and made 8, while Josh Norsetter made 4. Nick Brelis made 32 and Jesse Felle took 2/20. Ladder Position: 6th

7th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley lost to Donnybrook 2 on forfeit. Ladder Position: 7th

Under 16 (1) - T20 - Moonee Valley 3/138 def Flemington 7/94 by 44 runs. First win for the season, well done boys! No scores submitted again. Ladder Position: 5th

Under 16 (2) - T20 - Moonee Valley bye. Ladder Position: 3rd

Under 14 (1) - T22 - Moonee Valley 7/91 lost to Maribyrnong Park-St Marys 0/183 by 92 runs. Our boys stuck to the task really well and never gave up! Tomas Morrissy 29no and Lachie Monger 12no were best with the bat. Ladder Position: 7th

Under 12 (4) - T20 - Moonee Valley 7/65 lost to Pascoe Vale Hadfield 3/105 by 40 runs. Eden Del Citto made 12 while Archie Frazer and Antonio Baldino picked up wickets. Well done boys! Ladder Position: 5th

Under 10 - One-dayer - Moonee Valley 5/91 lost to Brunswick 3/116 by 25 runs. No details received about this game again!

With three two-day teams to pick for Saturday and two one-day teams for Sunday, we are always looking for boys who are keen to have a crack if we can get them a game (thanks to those who answered the call last week - you would have got a game if the senior player withdrawals had come a little earlier. Please let me know by replying to this email if you are available by 5pm today (Tuesday) and we'll do our best to get you a game. If you're not sure at this stage, please let me know this as well.

GO VALLEYS!
