Junior performances - October 11-13 weekend
by Brendan Rhodes
Great to see everyone back playing cricket again this season, both in juniors and seniors. It was a mixed weekend, with three wins, three losses and a draw in the seniors, and one win, two losses and a draw in the juniors. Here's how everyone went at the weekend, with seven junior boys playing senior cricket, which was excellent to see.
1st Grade - 40 overs - Moonee Valley 8/150 def Sunbury 135 by 15 runs. Ladder Position: 2nd
2nd Grade - 40 overs - Moonee Valley drew Sunbury, match abandoned due to a lack of available grounds. Ladder Position: 7th
3rd Grade - Twenty20 - Moonee Valley 2/77 def Indigos 71 by eight wickets with 15 balls to spare (Josh Norsetter went for 14 off his first over but came back brilliantly to finish with 2/18 off four). Ladder Position: 1st
4th Grade - Twenty20 - Moonee Valley 6/58 lost to Parkville District 5/166 by 108 runs (as the scores suggest, everybody in the team had a bad day with the bat, but Luca Nimorakiotakis led the way with the ball, taking 2/20 off 4. Josh Norsetter took 0/25 off 3 and Tomas Morrissy 0/30 off 3, while Felix Fischer wicketkept well and whipped off the bails for a run out and Bevan Holder never gave up in tough circumstances. Having five boys in one team was great to see and bodes well for the future! Ladder Position: 8th
5th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley 191 def Maribyrnong Park St Marys 156 by 35 runs. Liam Shaw made 101 retired in his return to the club. Ladder Position: 4th
6th Grade - Two-dayer - Moonee Valley 158 lost to Royal Park Reds 5/169 by five wickets (Dejan Gilevski again bowled brilliantly, taking his first senior wicket by dismissing a batsman who had just hit him for six and had made 64 out of 85 to that stage of the game. Dejan finished with the amazing figures of 1/15 off 11 overs. Brilliant effort mate! Even better, Jakob Haskell took the catch off Dejan's bowling and finished with 3 catches for the game!). Ladder Position: 6th
7th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley 9/256 lost to Shakti Lions 8/257 by two wickets off the last ball. What a thriller, with Jarrod Sims making 100no in only his second game for the club. Ladder Position: 5th
Under 16 (1) - T20 - Moonee Valley 7/45 lost to Keilor 8/148 by 103 runs. A tough start to the season for our boys, but I'm certain we will bounce back quickly. No scores submitted. Ladder Position: 6th
Under 16 (2) - T20 - Moonee Valley 4/96 drew Burnside Springs 5/127. Bad light stopped play, with our boys splitting the points. Tomas Morrissy 28no and Thomas Crispe 26 batted well, while Riley Walsh 2/15 and Jack Cumming 2/18 were the pick of the bowlers. Ladder Position: 6th
Under 14 (1) - T20 - Moonee Valley 3/74 lost to Keilor Park 5/156 by 82 runs. No scores submitted. Again, there were good signs, and improvement will come. Ladder Position: N/A
Under 12 (4) - T20 - Moonee Valley 4/88 def St Bernard's Gold 6/78 by 10 runs. A great win to kick off the year! Max Talone 17no and Archie Frazer 12no were great with the bat and Eden Del Citto (3/6 off 2) was brilliant with the ball. drew Burnside Springs 5/127. Bad light stopped play, with our boys splitting the points. Tomas Morrissy 28no and Thomas Crispe 26 batted well, while Riley Walsh 2/15 and Jack Cumming 2/18 were the pick of the bowlers. Ladder Position: 2nd
