Junior performances - November 8/10 weekend

by Brendan Rhodes

Wow, hasn't the weather been terrible this month! Call me soft (I probably am) but it is too cold and too wet for November!

1st, 2nd Grade and 4th Grades were washed out for the second consecutive week, while 5ths and 6ths got up and 3rds and 7ths won silver medals, as our president Charlie Walker likes to put it.

All junior cricket was sadly abandoned, with all matches finishing in draws.

We have five teams playing on Saturday (three of them two dayers) this week and two on Sunday, so please let me know if you are available and we will try to slot you in for a game - we expect there to be positions available once again.

Here's the results from the past few days:

1st Grade VTCA Twenty20 - T20 - Moonee Valley 8/126 lost to Footscray United 8/136 by 10 runs. Another tight T20 contest last night, but this time we were unfortunate to come out on the wrong side of the ledger. Anthony Cafari 3/18 and 28 was the man of the match, while all the other bowlers got one wicket each. Sohail Hussain 20no and Dan Comande 20 also batted well.  Ladder Position: 2nd in Group

1st Grade - Two Dayer - Moonee Valley drew Jacana - Match Abandoned. Ladder Position: 3rd

2nd Grade - Two Dayer - Moonee Valley drew Jacana - Match Abandoned. Ladder Position: 2nd

3rd Grade - 45 overs - Moonee Valley 153 lost to La Trobe 191 by 38 runs. A solid bowling and fielding display led by Dan Phillips 3/13 and Steve Esmore 2/20 to give us a chaseable target, but apart from a great partnership between Sunny Sharma 53 and Dean Jukic 41, the batting was disappointing as we lost our second game for the season. Ladder Position: 2nd

4th Grade - 45 overs - Moonee Valley drew Monash University - Match Abandoned. Ladder Position: 8th

5th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley 8/265 def Northern Lions 117 by 148 runs. A huge win for our Shiners to consolidate top spot on the ladder. Liam Farrell 74no, Jarrad Sims 58, Paddy Shelton 38 and Nathan Deery 34 teed off on the opposition before Manu Poulose 5/17 destroyed the batting with support from Cassidy Box 3/40. Ladder Position: 1st

6th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley 244 def Preston Druids 154 by 90 runs. Our first victory of the season was spearheaded by debutant Tom Sudholz 62no, Dean Lawson 58 and Jesse Felle 54 before Tom 3/3 off 6 overs backed it up with a brilliant spell of bowling supported by Nick Brelis 3/34. Dejan Gilevski 1 and 1/17 off 5 performed very well again and got rewarded with a wicket. Ladder Position: 6th

7th Grade - Moonee Valley 8/111 lost to Aintree 1/116 by nine wickets with 126 balls to spare. We got a team on the park for the first time in a few weeks, but it was tough work taking on an opposition stacked with 1st Graders. Our guys stuck to the task and can hold their heads high. Josh Gorry 40 was the pick of the batsmen and Markus Harris 1/7 took his first wicket for the club. Josh Norsetter 0no and 0/37 tried hard as always all day.  Ladder Position: 7th

Under 16 (1) - Two Dayer - Moonee Valley drew Youlden Parkville 5/306 - Match Abandoned. Ladder Position: 6th

Under 16 (2) - Two Dayer - Moonee Valley 8/37 drew St Bernards 3/144 - Match Abandoned.  Ladder Position: 4th

Under 14 (1) - Two Dayer - Moonee Valley 9/81 drew Youlden Parkville 2/147 - Match Abandoned. Ladder Position: 7th

Under 12 (4) - T20 - Moonee Valley drew East Coburg - Match Abandoned. Ladder Position: 4th

Under 10 - One-dayer - Moonee Valley drew Taylors Lakes Blue - Match Abandoned.
