Junior Registration Day
As you will see from the other pages of this newsletter, our Junior Registration Day is being held with a sausage sizzle/barbecue at our Ormond Park pavilion on Sunday, August 28.
Training starts on the Tuesday and Wednesday following, with Under 10s starting a week later. The cricket season starts on October 8, the week after school resumes.
Training will continue through the school holidays, and we would hope that any players who go away would do some training and skills by themselves or with Mum and Dad, or brothers, sisters and friends.
You will also see attached a form seeking family information for our Moonee Valley club. We urge you to fill out the form and bring it along to the registration day.
We don’t need a North West Cricket Association registration form for players who were registered at Moonee Valley last season. We will have forms available for new players.
At this stage Moonee Valley is looking to field this season:
· One Under 16 team.
· One Under 17 Girls’ team.
· One or two Under 14 teams.
· One Under 14 girls’ team.
· Two Under 12 teams (possibility of a third)
· Two or three Under 10 teams.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
As a Club we depend a lot on our junior Coaches/Team Managers each week. There are a lot of tasks other Mums and Dads can carry out to contribute to the running of our junior teams and our Club. There’s a checklist and volunteer list attached. Please see what you can do to help, and nominate what tasks and when you can contribute. It will help us continue to provide an enjoyable cricket experience for our children.
OUR CRICKET CLUB WEBSITE
Moonee Valley over the off-season has taken advantage of the Cricket Victoria program providing websites to member clubs.
Our site – http://archive.mooneevalleycricket.com.au - is fully up and running, and incorporates a wide range of information from both the junior and senior sections of our Club – including last season’s Junior Wisden.
Anyone with photographs or any other material for consideration should contact Junior Co-ordinator Charlie Walker on 0409 237 543.
Our site includes links to the North West Cricket Association and ResultsVault, so you can see our scoreboards and results from 2005/06 and previous seasons.
JUNIOR REGISTRATION FEES
Our junior registration fees have increased by $11 this season to reflect rising costs, but your Junior Committee is planning a giveaway for the players when fees are paid. This represents excellent value.
As we said in our Juniors Report in the MVCC Annual Report (available on the website), our registration fees do not cover the cost of running the Junior Section each season, and we depend on other fundraising opportunities. Please support our other activities.
CLUB PHOTO SHOOT
We intend again having a Club photo day this season – some time in November. Players and parents will be advised when a day is finalised.
Attention all Dads!!!
The Moonee Valley Cricket Club seniors will again have six teams this season.
The Fifths and Sixths – the two one-day sides – are ideal for some of our Dads to try their hand at getting back into cricket. They already include a number of Dads of current juniors, or of ex-juniors who have now graduated to senior ranks.
One of the concepts which appeals to the Dads is the chance to, in either 2005/06 or coming seasons, to be able to play a game or games with their sons. Boys in the Under 16s this season will be offered chances to play senior cricket under our Club’s junior development policy.
Some fathers and other intending Fifths and Sixths players have indicated they want to play regularly; others only occasionally or if required. Any other fathers or family members interested in joining in the “fun” should ring Charlie Walker on 9370 1802 or 0409 237 543.
Firewood raffle
We are again holding our juniors Firewood Raffle, with tickets $2 each, or six for $10, enclosed here.
The Firewood Raffle for a tonne of firewood worth $135, is one of our main junior fundraising events each season, so we ask you to try and sell tickets. Books of tickets will also be available at the junior registration day, or see Charlie Walker (0409 237 543). Please bring the stubs and money to the registration day, or leave them with the coaches.
One Day Cricket Knockout Lotto
We will again hold our One Day Cricket Knockout Lotto competition this season, based on the one-day series starting in January between the Aussies, South Africa and Sri Lanka. We’ll let you know when it starts happening.
CLUB CONTACTS
Charlie Walker is again Junior Co-ordinator for 2005/06. He can be phoned on 0409 237 543 or at home on 9370 1802. Details of other junior contacts will be on the Handbook, available at the Junior Registration Day.
