Hip, hip to the Skip
There were pennant players aplenty when our much-admired 2014/15 premiership co-captain Brett Curran held his 60th birthday party at our Ormond Park clubrooms on November 5. It was only fitting that Brett held his milestone event at the new pavilion, because as a member of the two-man cricket-football sub-committee appointed to the project he played a vital role in ensuring that the building was fit for purpose and met our needs. At right: Hip, hip to the Skip. Brett Curran and MVCC teammates at his 60th: L-R Mark Gauci, John Talone, Brett Curran, Tony Gleeson, Peter Bevis, John Roberts, Dean Jukic (front), Jim McKenzie, Kevin Gardiner, Paul Hobbs, Dean Lawson and Steve Radford. Happy birthday Skipper! A 113-game player, Brett played a significant hand in our middle to lower grades for more than a decade after debuting in 2005/06. More than half of the 2014/15 flag team were there to celebrate with Skip, along with other players who have been part of his journey at Moonee Valley. Former Chief Commissioner of Police Graham Ashton, who was photographed wearing a pair of white pants bearing the Moonee Valley logo at a charity cricket match, was also in attendance. Many happy returns Skip, and may there be many more! ***For more pictures, click HERE
