SALE-O! TEAMS HAMMERED AT OUR
PLAYER AUCTION
Moonee Valley players across all senior grades went under the hammer in groups of three in a fun Player Auction night at Ormond Park on October 5, as a prelude to our season 2024/25 launch. In a bid to generate extra interest in individual and team results this season, the batting, bowling and fielding points of each player will be tallied every week to see how each of the 18 player teams is tracking. The teams are balanced across each of our six senior sides, with generally each team having one VTCA, one Mercantile and one NWMCA representative. At left: Brendan 'Jonty' Rhodes was the auctioneer at our Player Auction. Coach Brayden McGregor tries to find a bid under the table. It was a fun Sale-o, with our very own multi-media commentator Brendan 'Jonty' Rhodes as the entertaining auctioneer and coach Brayden McGregor as the penciller. Importantly, the auctions raised just under $3000 on the night, with half of the takings to go to the purchaser of the team which tallies the most points at the end of the season. The balance is a handy boost to the club coffers. For more photos from the night and details of the players and purchasers of each of the teams, click HERE .
The Test: Valley insight into the back
stories behind the docu-series
Moonee Valley players and families got a first-hand insight into the back-stories behind the 2023 Ashes series with a special screening of the key episode of The Test docu-series at Ormond Park on October 3. More than 50 players and family members attended the event, with one of the series editors, Mike Mulgrew. Mike - who is the dad of Moonee Valley junior Lachlan Mulgrew - was introduced by MC Kevin Gardiner, who coaches Lachlan. Mike Mulgrew (left) under the editing technicals on the big screen at Ormond Park - with MC Kevin Gardiner. Mike gave a riveting account of the ins and outs of the key moments in the series, including the runout dismissal of English batsman Jonny Bairstow and the appalling behaviour of the MCC members in the Lords Long Room. The Q&A session after the screening also provided plenty of insights, including how the docu-series was put together, the first-hand interaction with the Australian players and decisions on what stayed in and out of the final cut. We thank Mike for his time - and also thank Bede Gannon and Kevin Gardiner for the excellent meal for the attendees.
