OUR 2015/16 SENIOR WISDEN - SEE IT HERE!

The scoreboard only tells half the tale - Daniel Phillips' 150th game, but not his 5 for 6! Dan's the Man

Daniel Phillips turned the game on its head in his 150th club game, and on the way helped set a new record for the Thirds.
Opening the batting in the November 6 game against Old Camberwell Grammarians, Daniel compiled a solid partnership with Dean Lawson before the innings fell away and we were all out for 108.
That's when Dan really came into his own - his 5/6 off six overs routed the Grammar boys, and they were all out for 47.
It was a new record for the lowest total successfully defended in the Thirds, beating the 123 we successfully defended against East Keilor back in 1981/82.
Daniel bowled first change in the defence, taking over from the miserly Paul Bannister, who took a wicket and conceded just two runs from his five overs.
At right: The scoreboard only tells half the tale - Daniel Phillips' 150th game, but not his 5 for 6!
Daniel made an immediate impact - right on the money, and clean bowling two batsmen in his first over. His next two overs went for one run each, his fourth over netted another wicket with an excellent slips catch from Dean Jukic to give him the figures of 3/3. Dan's fifth over saw two catches from Paul Bannister at mid-off, and the excellent figures of 5/6.
Daniel has worked hard for Moonee Valley, captaining the Seconds for a number of seasons then missing the 2009/10 Premiership when he took a year off. He got his reward in the 2014/15 Premiership.
He travels from his home at Kilmore to play for the Valley, and when he was skipper of the Seconds would often have a sleep in his car after shiftwork before rousing for training.
Congratulations to a great bloke for a significant milestone and a great performance to cap it off!

Adam Patchell - our hat-trick taker!PATCHES WIN MATCHES

Adam Patchell made sure his 50th Moonee Valley game was a memorable one - by taking a  hat-trick!
Playing at home in the Fourths for the October 16 fixture, Patch and young Ethan Coombe had done the early damage to have South Yarra a shaky 5/50.
Patch then bowled their No. 3 bat and the Yarras advanced to 61 before Patch snared a plumb LBW with the final ball of his seventh over.
The Yarras advanced their score to 66 in the next over before our Patch was back on. His first ball was well caught by Mick Bannister at silly mid-off.
The hat-trick ball was full and fast, and the umpire had no problem in adjudicating it LBW when he ruled the batsman didn't play a shot. The incoming batsman avoided becoming the fourth wicket in a row when he kept out a yorker - but that was the only one he got bat to, as Patch rearranged the stumps next ball and South Yarra was all out for 66 in 27 overs, having lost its last four wickets for five runs.
Patch finished with an incredible 6/19 off 7.3 overs, while Ethan Coombe was equally impressive with 3/6 off six overs, including five maidens.
The hat-trick was Patch's first in half a lifetime of cricket, although he's been there often enough without nailing the third wicket.
Moonee Valley knocked over the South Yarra total five wickets down, to complete an emphatic win to help Patch celebrate his 50th game.
Adam Patchell's hat-trick was just the 21st by a Moonee Valley senior player in our 45-year history. The most recent hat-trick was from Peter O'Kane in the Thirds in 2013/14.

We've got you well covered at the Valleys

First we've got to unpack them: The inaugural covers team (L-R) included Steve and Matt Esmore, Ben Skok, Eddie Rayner and Charlie Walker.Moonee Valley got a set of new full-pitch covers in the off-season, to ensure that we are able to take full advantage of the excellent work done by our super-curator, Ian "Spider" Beel.
They came into play on the first round of the season.
The whole VTCA Round 1 on October 8 was called off when only 11 of the 74 grounds was ready - although Spider had Ormond Park up for the Seconds.

And Mercantile had 35 games abandoned and only seven right for play - and Spider's skills came to the fore to get Ormond Park up for a double-header for our Thirds and Fourths on the Sunday.
A crew of club members were on hand, led by Kevin Gardiner, to get the new covers down before the first weekend.
Many thanks to the volunteers, and also to the members who made a significant contribution to the purchas e- And this is how they look spread out...including Anthony Riggio and James Harris, with some dedicated tin-rattling and promotion by Channa DeSilva.
Thanks also to the VTCA for a $500 discount on the purchase price.
