Three Moonee Valley batsmen pulverised the opposition when our Sixths played Ascot Vale in the Barron Shield match on October 19.

As well as setting a new record score across all grades, the Mighty Fighting Sixths had three individual players notch up centuries, and another two with half-centuries.

Our centurions were Sam Carbone with 119, captain Mark Gauci with 106 and the returning Paul Edwards, who topped all-comers with a stylish 136.

It was Eddo's first game for more than 20 years, and his feat demonstrated why experienced Valley hands like Brett Curran and Tony Gleeson have been trying to get him back in the whites. Needless to say, Moonee Valley went on to win the match comfortably - despite a century by a ring-in player who captain Gauci graciously allowed to play on Week 2 of the two-day game at Ormond Park, and an injury drama when our John Petropoulos took a fantastic catch to dismiss their century-maker on the boundary and then hit his head on the ground. John P may have spent a night in hospital with concussion, but he held the catch!

Vanessa and MarleyCongratulations to the Gauci family

Congratulations to Moonee Valley Life Member Mark Gauci and his partner Vanessa Schuller on the safe arrival of their first child.
Daughter Marley was born at the Royal Women's Hospital at 1.02am on Mark Gauci and Marley.October 5, hitting the scales at 6 pounds, 13 ounces.
Mother and daughter are both doing well - which is more than we can say for Gauch, who was exhausted after 49 hours without sleep while Vanessa did all the work.
Like a dutiful dad, Mark was present at the birth.
Gauch also raised some eyebrows when he missed his debut match as captain of the Moonee Valley Sixths to attend the arrival. We understand a coup to reinstate Brett Curran as Skipper is imminent.
As a past First Eleven Premiership captain, Mark said his responsibilities at Marley's arrival were not much different to the frustrating task of pulling 10 cricketers into line week in, week out.
Mark advises that he's already made all the right moves to ensure that Marley grows up as a Collingwood supporter. And he's also spoken to our Milo In2Cricket co-ordinator, fellow Life Member John Talone, to ensure that Marley can pick up a cricket bat for Moonee Valley as soon as she's able.
Congratulations to Mark, Vanessa and Marley from all of us at the Valley!

WE NEED MORE JUNIOR CRICKETERS

Moonee Valley Cricket Club has vacancies across all age groups for junior cricketers. Our juniors play in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association, and our junior program offers an excellent pathway for youngsters to work their way up through the age groups and grades to senior cricket.

We're based at Ormond Park, in Pattison Street, Moonee Ponds.

Moonee Valley fields teams in the Under 16, Under 14, Under 12 and Under 10 age groups, and has a Milo In2Cricket program for the youngsters.

Our Under 16s play Sunday morning home games, which enables players who have compulsory school sport commitments to still play with our Club.

Our Under 14s play Friday evening home games, while we have a range of Friday, Saturday and Sunday alternatives for the Under 12s.

The Under 10s are a Friday evening competition, while we also run our Milo program on Friday nights.

Anyone wanting more information about our juniors should ring Club President Charlie Walker on 0409 237 543 or Junior Co-ordinator Kevin Gardiner on 0417 536 896.
