OUR MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARDS -
THE
VOTING
And the Moonee Valley Fieldlow Awards - who are the winners?
We announced and honored our Most Valuable Player award winners and the Fielding Award recipients at a fun long weekend vote count at the Ormond Park pavilion on March 8. Our gun First Eleven recruit Hayden Rayner and Women's team keeper and opening bat Fiona Bathie took out the double - winning both the MVP and Fielding Awards in their team - while we may have set a first at Moonee Valley with father and son Geoff and Ollie McKeown in a tie for the Second Eleven Fielding Award. To further extend the family connection, Geoff's other son Oscar won the same award last season. Above: The double: Winners of both the MVP and Fieldlow in their grades - Hayden Rayner and Fiona Bathie. A big thanks to Brendan Rhodes for collating the votes across the season and for his entertaining and informative slideshow and vote count commentary. James Smith in the Fifths and Chand Shrestha in the Thirds won their second MVP on the trot. Fiona Bathie won her second Fielding Award in a row, after being a joint winner in 2024/25. Our other winners this year are: MVP - Max Jones (Seconds), Ammy Kahlon (Thirds), Shiva Chhabra (Fourths). Fielding Award - Ben Baldacchino (Fourths), Xavier Manson (Fifths). ****For more pictures and the full vote count, click HERE

ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR OUR SANDRA
Sandra Verschoor has become just the fourth player in our women's program to notch up 50 games. The milestone comes just a week after Sandra became Moonee Valley's first woman player to reach 1000 runs. Sandra's 50th game was in our last-gasp loss in the semi final on March 8. At right: Sandra and the semi-final team: L-R Back - coach Darren Nagle, Sandra Verschoor, Sarah Fenn, Siobhan Donohoe, Fiona Bathie. Front - Yasmin King, Emily Seery, Kylie Russo and Maddie Dutton-Johnson. Since we first fielded women's teams in 2007, only current captain Sarah Fenn (72 games), Clare Ardern (53) and Tanya Intagliata (52) have brought up the 50 games. Sandra is a three-time Premiership player from her 50 games.
***SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT SATURDAY MARCH 28
- FULL DETAILS HERE - BOOK NOW!***
Presentation night is fast approaching, and we need to start getting our numbers together for our biggest event of the year – Saturday, March 28 at the Ormond Park pavilion. We will be announcing and presenting the Club Champion (First Eleven), the winner of the prestigious Sean O'Kane Award (based on points for teams in all grades other than the Firsts), batting, bowling and fielding awards for each grade, and more. We will be presenting milestone trophies for games, runs and wickets, the medallions from the Most Valuable Player vote count, the Lindsay Jones Best Clubman award and other awards, so we want maximum numbers of players, families and supporters to be there. It's a 7pm start. Following on from the successful event at the start of 2025, the committee made the decision that we would hold Presentation Night at the Ormond Park pavilion again this season, and it will be self-catered. The cost is$30 per person, with the meal comprising antipasto platters, a choice of either lasagna or chicken parmigiana as main course and a dessert. The lasagna comes in meat or vegetarian, and people with preferences should email [email protected] with their advice. People can also nominate whether their preference is for the lasagna or parmigiana main choice. To assist with cash flow we ask people to pay direct into the Club’s bank account: A/c Name:Moonee Valley Cricket Club. BSB: 633108 A/c Number: 138449160. Don’t forget to put yourname on the payment details so we can identify who has paid. And please email our Club Treasurer, Allan Cumming at [email protected] with your details to confirm payment. People can also pay cash on the night or through our card machine at the bar. Captains have been asked to start canvassing attendees, but to help me plan the numbers I ask that people who are coming also email me direct at [email protected], with advice on if they're coming alone or with a partner and other family. Please respond promptly so that we can plan this properly. Many thanks, Charlie Walker. President, Moonee Valley Cricket Club

A DOUBLE FIFTY
FOR SUDARSHAN Congratulations to Sudarshan Devkota, who brought up his 50-wicket milestone for Moonee Valley on February 15 - just a month after notching his 50th game for our club. Sudy has been with Moonee Valley since he walked in off the street in 2021/22, and while he lives out to the west and drives past multiple clubs to get here each week, he's stayed loyal. He has been a mainstay in the Sunday Fourths this season, while also putting his hand up for an occasional double-up match in the Fifths. Sudy brought up his 50th wicket in style in the home game against Brunswick, clean bowling the opening bat to break a 44-run partnership. He then took the last three wickets in the space of two runs to wrap up the innings to finish with figures of 4/39. At right: Sudarshan Devkota celebrates his 50th wicket with sons Swatit and Swakrit. Sudarshan's journey into cricket is via an unusual pathway, as he was born in Nepal - not regarded as a traditional cricket country. But he enjoys his cricket, moreso as his two sons Swatit and Swakrit attend every game with him - sometimes watching Dad, but just as likely to be finding something to play on, to have an adventure in the park or to enjoy the afternoon teas. The two boys are a welcome part of Moonee Valley - and are proud of their Dad.
*CRICKET - COME PLAY AT THE VALLEY
Moonee Valley Cricket Club is always keen to talk to potential new players for our Saturday and Sunday turf teams, our Saturday men's hard-wicket team, our Sunday women's team and junior teams at all levels. Anyone interested in joining Moonee Valley can phone senior coach Brayden McGregor on 0429 559 797, junior co-ordinator Paul Sevenson on 0407 556 950 or President Charlie Walker on 0411 705 381. Anyone wanting information can also email us at [email protected] SANDRA - JUST SUPERB WITH THE BAT Sandra Verschoor has set a piece of Moonee Valley history, becoming the first player from our Women's teams to score 1000 runs. Above : Sandra Verschoor's 1000 runs for Moonee Valley: L-R Kylie Russo, Yasmin King, Sarah Fenn, Sandra Verschoor, Fiona Bathie, coach Darren Nagle, Maddie Dutton Johnson and Mackayla Coote. Sandra brought up the significant milestone in our last pre-finals game playing at home on March 1, with a well-crafted 16 not out. It was also Sandra's 49th game, so another milestone awaits in the first week of the finals. She has scored 58 runs from seven games this season for once out, after retiring at the start of the season with the rider that she would only consider playing if there were any games we were short. We won the March 1 game against Youlden Parkville 3/134 to 5/115, and Sandra got the second innings off to a great start with a fine catch in the second over. She has been a consistent run-scorer throughout her career, and her average at the start of this season was 67.57. When you throw in Sandra's 28 wickets @ 16.71 it's been quite a career. Next in line in our Women's cricket run tally is current player Yasmin King with 843, so hopefully we've got another milestone not too far away - it would be wonderful if Yas got there during the finals series. Next after that are Samantha Marr with 593, Katherine Baker with 531 and Natalie Demarte with 416. And Sandra's not the only member of her family to feature in the Moonee Valley Wisden - husband Howard Norsetter played six games, and son Joshua Norsetter is one of a select group to have notched up the Triple Crown at the Valley - 1000 runs, 100 games and 100 wickets.
