OUR FIRST ELEVEN HONORING OUR HEATH
Moonee Valley's line-up to honor the Webb-Johnson/Pascu Cup on December 12 - L-R Sam Younghusband, Jordon McDonald, Glen Courts, Zac Nilsson, Dejan Gilevski, Alec McIntyre, Anthony Cafari, Luke Brock, Charles Bibby, Jack Newman and Sunil Bhandari, with umpire Neil Dey.

Moonee Valleys First Eleven cricketers got the opportunity to honor past team-mate Heath Webb-Johnson with a win in the second year of the Webb-Johnson/Pascu Cup match against Moonee Ponds - formerly Aberfeldie Park.
The two clubs came together last season to honor two loved and respected players and mates no longer with us - Heath Webb-Johnson of Moonee Valley and Gary Pascu of Aberfeldie Park.
Heath's dad Neville attended the start of the match, where both teams lined up in front of the Ormond Park pavilion for a minute's silence. Neville also said a few words to acknowledge the support of the two teams.

Last year's game was played between the clubs' Second Elevens, as the line-ups that season included a number of players with direct links to the two.
This year it reverted to the Firsts. It was scheduled for Round 1, but with the wash-out the match was rescheduled for the make-up round.
In a hard-fought contest, Moonee Valley compiled 7/185 off our 40 overs, on the back of 57 not out from coach Glen Courts, who was on one-leg for a fair part of the innings after twanging a hamstring. Jordon McDonald with 36 and Charles Bibby with 29 rounded out the score.
Moonee Ponds got off to a flier in the chase, losing the first wicket at 51 in the ninth over. Our spinners and medium pacers then took over, bowling them out in the 34th over for 132. Dejan Gilevski with 3/12 and Jordon McDonald with 2/22 got among the wickets.

Moonee Valley's Kat-trick spearheads a win

The team gathers around Katherine (middle, white runners) with coach Darren Nagle after the hat-trick ball.Moonee Valley young gun Katherine Baker saved the best until last in our Women's match against Sydenham Hillside on December 12 - bowling a hat-trick off the last over of the day.
At left: The team gathers around Katherine (middle, white runners) with coach Darren Nagle after the hat-trick ball.
It was Katherine's first game this season for the Valley women, as she's in the development squad at Premier Club Essendon. She had an immediate impact for us when she was released from Essendon for the round.
Her first wicket was caught-and-bowled, followed by a catch by Tara Newman and then a straight ball the spread the stumps.
Katherine was a star in our premiership season in 2020/21, and won Moonee Valley's batting and bowling awards in the stellar season - which got her noticed at Essendon.
She continues to play her junior cricket at Moonee Valley, where she's a key performer in our Under 14 boys team on Friday evenings.
She was cool under pressure in her hat-trick over, and came tantalisingly close to a double hat-trick with the last ball of the day - which the Sydenham girl just kept out. Amazingly, this feat came the day before her 13th birthday.
The win also took Moonee Valley to the top of the ladder.                                                                                                                                       The winning team gets around hat-trick taker Katherine Baker at Ormond Park.    Our past & our present come together

Back at the Valley - L-R Ian Denny, Gary Johnson, Greg Meyers and Danny Terzini.
There were blasts from the past and stars of the future when the Moonee Valley Cricket Club held its season opening function on November 27.
The function was a joint effort with the Moonee Valley Cricket Club Past & Present Players & Supporters group, and it was great to see some of the players who helped forge our destiny back at Ormond Park.
And talk about luck! He seems to do it every time, but Life Member Michael "Mickster" Cumbo AGAIN won the raffle.
Above: Back at the Valley - L-R Ian Denny, Gary Johnson, Greg Meyers and Danny Terzini.
It was great to see past players such as Greg Meyers, Gary Dudderidge, Gary Johnson, Warwick Nolan and Gary Irons back at Ormond Park, and players with a long and still ongoing history at Moonee Valley, such as Ed Nott, Ian Denny, John Talone and Kevin Gardiner.
We were also well represented by our current players, and thanks to Dom Rettino and the winning crew from the Fifths, who organised the catering for the night. Much appreciated to the Shiners!
Thanks also to Sandro Capocchi, Dean Lawson and John Talone for their excellent work in establishing the Past & Present Players group and the excellent Facebook page to keep everyone in touch. All past players and supporters who have not yet come on board with the Facebook page are urged to do so asap - there's plenty of fun and memories, including Sandro's call for "funniest moments" - which seemed to backfire on him!
