A REVERSAL OF FORTUNES FOR TOM J

Our raffle winner Tom Janetzki (centre) with Jack Newman (left) and Brayden McGregor.

The Ormond Park pavilion was packed out for our Reverse Raffle night, which was a roaring success.
We sold all of the 400 tickets for the event, and the major prize was won by Tom Janetzki.
Above: Our raffle winner Tom Janetzki (centre) with Jack Newman (left) and Brayden McGregor.
Our thanks go to the organisers of the Reverse Raffle - one of our major fundraisers for the year - particularly Jack Newman, Brayden McGregor and Ian Denny.
Thanks also to the outside support we received for our event, including the group from the Maribyrnong Park St Marys Cricket Club, and the crew of Western Australian visitors across for a week with our curator Matt Philpott.
Thanks also to the support from member of the Moonee Valley Bowls Club.
We also appreciate the last-minute inclusion of Michael Bourke from Memorabilia Magic, who turned up with framed photos and other memorabilia from the football, cricket and horse-racing world.
Michael was an absolute hoot with his auctioning routine, and had the crowd in stitches as he worked around the room. The auction result was also a valuable boost to our takings on the night.
We all had fun when Michael identified Dom Gibaldi as the sole North Melbourne supporters in attendance. He must have felt sorry for the long-suffering Dom, and donated to him the only piece of Kangaroos memorabilia - a frame photo of Glenn Archer.
Our thanks also go to our sponsors Dorr Paper & Food Supplies and to Frankie's Pizza for looking after us with the excellent food on the night.
Thanks also to our volunteers in the kitchen and bar who kept us well provisioned - with special thanks particularly to Sarah Fenn, Adele Walker, Paul Simon, Paul Sevenson and Allan Cumming.

When our Greats drop in to the pavilion.....

It's always a privilege to have some of our greats drop in to the Ormond Park pavilion for a reminisce and to meet our current-day players, and November 15 was no exception.
Our captain/coach Brayden McGregor (centre) took the opportunity to chat with club greats (from left) Tony Hicks, Gary Irons, Ray Storey and Kevin Gardiner.A small gathering including Ray Storey, Rod and Betty McLeod, Gary Irons, Kevin Gardiner and Tony Hicks spent a few hours at Ormond Park enjoying the cricket, watching the Seconds and talking about old times.
At left: Our captain/coach Brayden McGregor (centre) took the opportunity to chat with club greats (from left) Tony Hicks, Gary Irons, Ray Storey and Kevin Gardiner.
Ray is an official Legend of Moonee Valley, Rod founded our great club along with Ray, GI and Kevin are avid historians of Moonee Valley and protectors of our heritage, and Tony is always a welcome visitor.
Kevin is set to be inducted into the Moonee Valley Hall of Fame at a special dinner on February 7 - the second-highest honor in our club below the bestowing of Legend status.
Ray is also keen to encourage more informal drop-ins for past players to watch the cricket at Ormond Park, where those who helped shape our history can get together for a convivial chat and support the modern-day players who are now making their own piece of history.
Ray is also keen to expand and develop our memorabilia displays, with some old keepsakes and more photos, trophies and plaques.

Moonee Valley's gone to the dogs

Enjoying the view near the main grandstand at The Meadows before the weather turned - L-R Tom Janetzki, Hayden Rayner and Brayden McGregor.

A group of Moonee Valley players and supporters descended on The Meadows as part of Greyhound Racing Victoria's Dream Chasers Festival.
The weather for the November 8 event was equivalent to cricket washout territory, but it didn't dampen the enthusiasm for our group, camped under marquees and with gas heaters nearby.
We were at the Campbellfield facility through the Cheer a Chaser fundraiser, part of GRV's Dream Chasers Festival.
Our thanks to Greyhound Racing Victoria and to Sportsbet for their hospitality on the night, which provided free admission, the first drink and finger food all night.
Thanks also to their sponsorship which put $1000 in the Moonee Valley budget, and the opportunity to also win thousands more if our designated greyhounds won in the eight selected races - a string of seconds and thirds saw us come oh-so-close.
Our Jason Ripa participated in a series of cricket-related challenges run by former Australian One-Day and Twenty20 captain Aaron Finch, and won the first heat.
Jason was in line for the $5000 first prize, but a dodgy ball in the catching segment led to him being eliminated.
Moonee Valley thanks GRV and Sportsbet for putting on The Club Shout, and we're keen to participate again when next it rolls around.

Shiva's stunning spell turns the match

Moonee Valley's Shiva Chhabra became the 27th player in our history to take a senior hat-trick when he bowled the Fourths to victory against Thornbury Turf Strokers.
Shiva Chhabra - a hat-trick in the Fourths.Shiva, in his first season at Moonee Valley, took a wicket off the last ball of his eighth over. The first ball of his final over clean-bowled the batsman, and the hat-trick ball was snicked through to keeper Vansh Tandon to leave Thornbury nine down in the November 2 match. They had been still a chance at 6/94 chasing our 140 before Shiva was thrown the ball for the last three overs of his allocation.
At right: Shiva Chhabra - a hat-trick in the Fourths.
For good measure, Shiva took the catch when ended Thornbury's innings, all out for 106. Shiva now has seven wickets at 11.29 this season.
It was also a milestone match for teen Luke Sevenson, still Under 16-eligible, who scored his maiden 50. And Fourths skipper Manu Singh, a two-time Premiership captain at Moonee Valley, played his 100th game. To cap off the milestones in the match, Pat Taylor scored 11 runs to take him past 1000 for the club and into the select group of Triple Crown players - those who have played 100 games, taken 100 wickets and scored 1000 runs.
Moonee Valley players have scored 28 senior hat-tricks - Ian Denny has two - and Shiva's feat was the first since Jordy Walsh in the Seconds in the final round last season.
Congratulations all round!
