OUR 2015/16 SENIOR WISDEN - SEE IT HERE!
See Santa Simon for a new bag for Christmas
Moonee Valley has some smart cricket bags on order now, and they would make great gifts for Christmas - for your loved one or yourself.
Club Vice President Simon Thornton has organised the bulk purchase, and we can pass on the discounts to our members.
Details of the bags are attached here.
Players wanting the large bags - which can hold all your kit - will need to order them by December 2 to ensure delivery in time for Christmas.
Don't miss out - email Simon at simon.thornton@hotmail.com or send him a text on 0417 570 779 to place your order now. We can ensure we're the smartest-looking team on the park when we turn up with these beauties.
Our Moonee Valley Christmas Party: Sunday, December 18
Merry Christmas from Moonee Valley!
Our Christmas party for both the seniors and juniors is being held at Ormond Park on Sunday, December 18.
There will be fun and enjoyment for players and families.
Timetable:
12.30pm - Fourths game on the turf wicket starts, v Bentleigh
1pm - Christmas Party starts
1pm - Spud's Bar and our canteen open for business
Food will be served during the course of the afternoon, with an excellent barbecue meal, chicken, salads and pasta.
The entry price is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 17 – although if you see your full book of $2 raffle tickets, entry is free.
A highlight of the afternoon will be the drawing of the big Christmas raffle. We’ve got a whole range of more than two dozen prizes, and the list is still growing. There’s a $500 cash prize, other cash prizes, bar and canteen vouchers, electrical goods, a billycart for the kids, a cubic metre of firewood and sporting goods.
Club Life Member Danny Terzini is busy selling raffle tickets now, so see him around the club or the matches over the next week or two.
Dan's the Man
Daniel Phillips turned the game on its head in his 150th club game, and on the way helped set a new record for the Thirds.
Opening the batting in the November 6 game against Old Camberwell Grammarians, Daniel compiled a solid partnership with Dean Lawson before the innings fell away and we were all out for 108.
That's when Dan really came into his own - his 5/6 off six overs routed the Grammar boys, and they were all out for 47.
It was a new record for the lowest total successfully defended in the Thirds, beating the 123 we successfully defended against East Keilor back in 1981/82.
At right: The scoreboard only tells half the tale - Daniel Phillips' 150th game, but not his 5 for 6!
Daniel bowled first change in the defence, taking over from the miserly Paul Bannister, who took a wicket and conceded just two runs from his five overs.
Daniel made an immediate impact - right on the money, and clean bowling two batsmen in his first over. His next two overs went for one run each, his fourth over netted another wicket with an excellent slips catch from Dean Jukic to give him the figures of 3/3. Dan's fifth over saw two catches from Paul Bannister at mid-off, and the excellent figures of 5/6.
At left: The team which broke a Thirds record dating back to the 1980s for the best total defended: L-R: Jordon McDonald, Clyde D'Cruz, Adam Patchell, Ben Skok (rear), Ed Rayner, Daniel Phillips, Jeremy Davey, Dean Lawson, Paul Bannister, Geoff Shiell and Dean Jukic.
Daniel has worked hard for Moonee Valley, captaining the Seconds for a number of seasons then missing the 2009/10 Premiership when he took a year off. He got his reward in the 2014/15 Premiership.
He travels from his home at Kilmore to play for the Valley, and when he was skipper of the Seconds would often have a sleep in his car after shiftwork before rousing for training.
Congratulations to a great bloke for a significant milestone and a great performance to cap it off!

OUR NEW CLUBROOMS - NOW THE
DRAWINGS ARE HERE
The $2 million redevelopment and expansion of our Ormond Park pavilion is progressing, with the project plans signed off with the Moonee Valley Council. The next step was the elevations showing the concept of the outside structure, and we received them in December. Here are the elevations - and a link to the PDF document.
We're sure our members will agree that the new rooms are truly something to look forward to.

The final plans include much-needed amenities such as a significantly expanded social area, an upstairs scorers/timekeepers box, a functional kitchen and plenty of storage space.
There is still a lot more to be done before construction starts and the finer detail of our new pavilion becomes a reality.
