New coach Mark Gauci outlined to the meeting his coaching philosophy and aims, and the plan and timetable he has prepared leading in to the season. The meeting was also told Channa DeSilva has been given the role of Director of Junior Cricket, so he will play a vital role representing our junior section on the senior committee along with the joint junior co-ordinators. *Abridged copies of the annual report are available from Charlie Walker. Only members of our Club are entitled to see the full annual report, including the financial statements. Our first pre-season training dates Moonee Valley has pencilled in our first pre-season training dates leading in to the 2015/16 season. The Club has booked the Action Indoor Sports Stadium at 90 Gordon St, Footscray for the first three Tuesdays in August. The sessions, on August 4, 11 and 18, run from 6 to 7pm. Players are asked to bring $10 per session. Coach Mark Gauci is also in the process of finalising at least two practice games against other local clubs in September, and expects outdoor training to commence in early September. There may be Saturday sessions before September, so watch our Facebook page for details. Moonee Valley will take a great deal of confidence into the new season on the back of two Premierships in 2014/15, and with several established players already committed to transferring to our Club. We welcome any other expressions of interest from new players for all our teams - from the Firsts to the Sevenths, and our junior grades. Mark's appointment was confirmed on May 16, and follows a detailed and impressive presentation on a vision of how he would lead our club forward.
Mark Gauci (right) is a Life Member of our Club, our most recent First Eleven premiership captain and more recently, captain of our Premiership-winning Sixth Eleven team in 2014/15.
Mark is now working on a pre-season training plan, and has pencilled in a program of at least two practice matches.
We offer our best wishes and sincere thanks to Rex Bennett, who coached Moonee Valley for the past two seasons - a period which saw the Valleys win three flags. A CALL FOR OUR CAPTAINS FOR 2015/16 Moonee Valley Cricket Club is calling for expressions of interest for the captain roles for the 2015/16 season. We expect to again field seven senior teams - the top two in VTCA, the next two turf teams in Mercantile and three teams in the North West Metro Cricket Association. The Club is keen to get expressions of interest for skippers from the Seconds through to the Sevenths, so that we can start planning for the season ahead. Players wishing to be considered for captain jobs should contact Moonee Valley secretary Adam Patchell at emailpatch@gmail.com OUR WINTER WARRIORS Moonee Valley is again leading the charge in the winter cricket, with three good wins and a narrow loss to start off the season.
We've built up a strong squad of players under second-year skipper Michael Ozbun, to the extent we're already planning for an expansion the following year. Our Valley team plays out of Fairbairn Park in Ascot Vale, as Ormond Park is not available due to winter sport requirements. We've got a mix of regular Valley summer players and others who join us for the winter season - such as Kern Kapoor, a crafty spinner and solid bat who has been a Valley player right from our first season in the Mid Year Cricket Association in 2013. Here's our Round 1 team: L-R. Back - Ben Thomas, Anthony Cafari, Nate Wolland, Kern Kapoor, Amandeep Singh, Matt Thomas, Michael Ozbun, Jatinder Singh and Mahir Rahman. Front - Gaurav Malhotra and Neil King with Queenie. Main Club contact details: * Charlie Walker - President 0409 237 543; 9370 1802 |
