Valley players show their true colors A big group of Moonee Valley players - past and present - came together at Windy Hill on August 10 to help Jim and Tien Polonidis celebrate their milestone birthdays. The night had a football theme, and guests showed their true colors. Essendon supporter Jim showed he was a true Bomber with both the red and black and the sky pilot garb. Richmond fanatic Tien showed that nothing was going to get in the way as far as the Tigers were concerned. The event celebrated Jim's 40th and Tien's 30th. Jim's a decorated life member of our club, while Tien got to within striking distance of her 50-game milestone, mainly in our past women's teams. At right: Tien and Jim Polonidis in their true colors. At left: The cake looked garish - but tasted great.

OUR CALL GOES OUT FOR CAPTAINS
The Moonee Valley Cricket Club is now calling for applicants for captains for all our grades from the Seconds to the Eighths. The grades are:
* Second Eleven. VTCA turf team, playing opposite our Firsts in the draw. * Third Eleven. Now in Mercantile Cricket Association. 21-week turf season of seven two-day games and seven one-day games. Sunday home games; mainly Saturday away games.
* Fourth Eleven. Our highest-graded hard wicket team, playing in the NWMCA two-day competition. * Fifth Eleven - VTCA Sunday one-day turf. The committee has endorsed this grade as one to focus on creating senior turf experience for younger players, particularly our players still in juniors. It will include several experienced players to help guide development. * Sixth Eleven - NWMCA two-day hard wicket comp. * Seventh Eleven - NWMCA one-day comp - probably Saturday team. * Eighth Eleven - NWMCA one-day comp - probably Sunday team.
A panel of committee members will interview suitable applicants. Rex Bennett, as coach and Chairman of Selectors, will be on the panel. We will also consider submissions from players wishing to nominate as vice-captains. Written or email nominations should be sent to Club Secretary Peter Golding on goldingp@optusnet.com.au by Sunday, September 8. Any interested players wanting to discuss the roles can ring Charlie Walker on 0409 237 543.
We’re set for the season – senior pre-season training in full swing
We're back on deck training at Ormond Park as we motor towards season 2013/14. We've held senior training on Saturday mornings for several weeks. Now we're back there on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm. Training will start later once Daylight Savings kicks in. New players Coach Rex Bennett has a firm view that every player should also be a recruiter for our Club, and so we invite all of our members to bring a friend, relative or acquaintance along to our sessions to also join our club and bolster our numbers. We will have spots available for players in both Saturday and Sunday grades. Anyone interested in joining our Club for the 2013/14 season should ring President Charlie Walker on 0409 237 543, Vice President Simon Thornton on 0417 570 779 or coach Rex Bennett on 0412 472 334.
