Moonee valley 1st XI vs Gellibrand 1st XI grand final report

On the weekend of the 16th and 17th of March 2024 Moonee Valley Cricket Club played against Gellibrand Cricket Club in the Evan Evans/Clark Shield division 4 VTCA grand final played at Ormond Park.
The toss was won by Gellibrand, and they elected to bat first on day one.
Luke Brock opened the bowling from the club rooms end of the wicket by bowling a maiden over to start the grand final, Steve Hazelwood opened from the Ormond Road end. The first wicket fell at 8 runs bowled by Luke Brock and was caught behind by Suraj Weerasinghe.
At the end of the tea break Gellibrand were 5-70 with 2 to Luke Brock, 1 to Jack Newman and Dejan Gilevski and a run out from Ruwan Jayaweera.
At the end of the day’s play Gellibrand Cricket Club were all out for 224, wickets to Jack Newman (3) Luke Brock (2), Ruwan Jayaweera (2), Rusiru Jayasiri (1), Dejan Gilevski (1). Gellibrand’s run scorers 56 to Michael Keating, 36 to Ross Thomasson, 22 to Brayden McDonald, giving Moonee Valley Cricket Club a target of 225 runs to win.
Start of day two, Captain Jack Newman and Rusiru Jayasiri opened the batting for Moonee Valley.
At the drinks break Moonee Valley were 0-58 with Rusiru Jayasiri on 36 and Jack Newman on 12. First wicket falls at 64 runs with Rusiru Jayasiri making 38 runs and Jack Newman not out on 24, Brayden McGregor at the crease with Jack Newman.
At the tea break on day two Moonee Valley Cricket Club were 3-102, Jack Newman caught and bowled for 44, Rusiru Jayasiri caught for 39 and Sam Younghusband LBW for 0. A wicket each to Jacob McDonald, Michael Keating, and Brayden McDonald.
At the second lot of drinks on day two Moonee Valley were sitting on 5/151 with Brayden McGregor caught and bowled on 42 and Suraj Weerasinghe making 1 and getting bowled.
Unfortunately Moonee Valley Cricket Club were not able to reach the target falling 25 runs short with being bowled all out for 199, run scores for Moonee Valley, Jack Newman 44, Rusiru Jayasiri 39, Brayden McGregor 42, Luca Nimorakiotakis 26, Luke Brock 16.
