Ex Valley junior Sean taking Victoria by storm
Former Moonee Valley Cricket Club junior Sean Sturrock (right) has been selected to play in the Victorian Under 17 team.
Proud dad Garry said Sean was part of the 13-man squad to play in Brisbane in January. He warned that now the hard work begins.
The team is playing in the Australian championships from January 6 to 18, against the other States. Sean played 55 junior games at Moonee Valley from 1999 to 2004, before finishing off his junior career with a season at Williamstown.
He made 434 runs at 8.68 during his Valley years, and took 46 wickets at 17.39.
Sean, a left-hand leg spinner and right hand bat, has played all this season in the Melbourne Third Eleven in the Premier Cricket competition.
He played all of last season in Melbourne’s Thirds and Fourths, and took 5/65 in the Fourth Eleven Grand Final.
Even though he finished his playing career at Moonee Valley in 2004, Sean is no stranger to our Club or to Ormond Park.
Most Friday evenings he can be found in the Ormond Park nets having a hit-out with his former Valley team-mates, while parents Garry and Pat are in the clubrooms for the raffle and the convivial winding-down of the week.
Dad Garry coached Moonee Valley junior teams for several seasons, is a past member of our Junior Committee and also pulled on the whites last season for a game in the Moonee Valley Mid-Week Turf competition.
It’s great that the ties between Sean and Moonee Valley remain so strong, and we’re all proud of him and his achievements.

Another former Moonee Valley junior who’s making a mark in Premier cricket is Ben Harding, who’s in the North Melbourne Thirds this season.
Ben played 67 junior games at Moonee Valley from 1998 to 2004 for 1106 runs at 30.72 and 59 wickets at 11.96. He also played two senior games, for 12 runs and four wickets.
Ben is playing Thirds with Rex Bennett, our former Moonee Valley coach and now coach at North Melbourne.
