Every post a winner for bowler Pete

Moonee Valley's Peter Smith must have taken at least one wicket in every postcode around the northern and western region on his way to 200 club wickets.

The popular Pete brought up his 200-wicket milestone on Sunday, playing in our Fifth Eleven on turf in the VTCA, with his haul of 3/32.

We weren't able to reward his achievement with a win against Sunshine Heights, but typically "Postcode Pete" was the not-out batsman, fighting bravely to the end.

Pete's usual stint at the crease sees him not out - although he's been known to have a difference of opinion with the umpire if the finger is raised to give him out LBW.

His form as a slow bowler who turns it the wrong way saw Peter win the 2003/04 Second Eleven bowling average, the 2001/02 Thirds average and the 2009/10 Fifths bowling average. He's also won several fielding awards - courtesy of his safe hands fielding at gully.

We're looking forward to wicket 250 coming up sooner rather than later.

Pete has played 111 games since joining the Valleys in 1996/97, and is now equal 13th on our all-time wicket taking list.

Pete Smith was selected in our 2010/11 Wisden Team of the Year on the back of his haul of 30 wickets @ 10.1, played in grades from the Thirds to the Sixths. He also played one game in the Eighths, where he too 5/10 off seven overs. Pete was also in Moonee Valley's 2007/08 Wisden Team of the Year.
