Denny, Gauci reach 350

by

Mark GauciTwo club legends in Ian Denny (left) and Mark Gauci (right) will on Sunday jointly become the first players in the Moonee Valley Cricket Club’s 50-year history to reach the 350 games mark.

Egbert and Gauch will bring up the milestone at home at Ormond Park, playing with the Thirds.

They had been planning for some weeks to bring up the joint milestone with Darren Nagle, who’s also on 349 games, but Spud has been caught up in the coronavirus border closure and been left stranded in NSW.

They plan to play with Spud when he completes his isolation to celebrate the milestone with him.

Ian Denny is already Moonee Valley’s runs and wickets recordholder, with 12,213 runs and 649 wickets.

Mark Gauci is also high on the lists, with 7956 runs – second most of all time – and 305 wickets.

Ian has played in seven premierships and Mark in two. Ian has been club president for two years while Mark is into his third year as vice-president.

Gauch captained the First Eleven for eight seasons, including as Premiership skipper in 2009/10, while Egbert led the Firsts for three seasons.

We invite players, past players and supporters to come to Ormond Park on Sunday to help celebrate the milestone with these two champions. The January 10 game starts at 12.30pm.

****NOTE: The milestone match was deferred to January 16 after Darren Nagle was able to return to Victoria and bypass isolation. The three played together.
