Calling all umpires: North West on a recruiting drive

The North West Metropolitan Cricket Association is asking Moonee Valley and other clubs to seek out members who may be interested in becoming Cricket Umpires for the coming 2014-15 season.

The North West's objective is to recruit new umpires and grow its umpiring base to fill as many appointments as possible to matches controlled by the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association.

It is seeking umpires for:

Open Age Grades, Saturday Afternoon
Junior Umpires for Saturday Morning Under Age cricket (under 16, Under 14 and Under 12 (8.20am to approx 11.30am).

Umpire development programs are in place to train and promote new umpires.

The North West wants to boost its Senior Panel membership to a level that will enable appointments to matches further down the Grades.

The Junior Grades always require a large number of new umpires each season to replace those umpires who are unable to continue umpiring on Saturday mornings. Normally, the bulk of the new Junior Grades umpires are recruited from players graduating from the Under 16 grades.

Many players finish their playing days and sadly exit the game. Umpiring is an avenue for these ex-players, or any other club members, to extend their participation in cricket.

Successful applicants have the opportunity to continue their involvement in the game.

NWMCA Senior panel umpires will be members of a professionally run Umpires' Association which supports all umpires on the Panel.

There is also a development pathway for any person desiring to pursue umpire participation at a higher level.

Note:- Umpire Payments:

NWMCA Senior Panel payments for 1 umpire are from $120 to $160 per afternoon, depending on the Grade..

Under Age Grades umpires' payments have been increased to $70 per morning.
