Bushfire fundraiser for the Walker family
by
The Moonee Valley Cricket Club is holding a cocktail night and fundraiser on November 21 for Club President Charlie Walker and his family, who were badly affected by the Lancefield bushfire.
Charlie and his family - cricketer sons Murray and Nigel and wife/past player Adele, run a firewood business, and lost almost 500 cubic metres of wood, three tractors, a log snigger, bulldozer, a shed, 500 acres of bush, 7.5km of fencing, old cars and a lot of other equipment.
Tickets are $50 per head for the Saturday night fundraiser, at Club sponsor the Laurel Hotel at 289 Mt Alexander Rd, Ascot Vale.
The Club is keen for wives and partners to be part of the night, so it's dress-up time, with all the guys to come semi-formal.
Finger food is provided, there will be a fundraising auction, drinks are at bar prices and there are special prices for the cocktail menu.
While the night is a chance for Club members and players to show their support for Charlie and family, the night is open to friends and cricketers from around the district and from other clubs.
It starts at 7.30pm, and is being held in the Laurel's Rooftop Bar. Committee members Michael Ozbun, Matt Thomas and Channa DeSilva are selling tickets now.
Admission is by ticket, although a limited number will be available at the door for people who show up on the night. You can book a ticket from Michael Ozbun on 0448 548 860 or via email to mooneev@club.cricketvictoria.com.au
*The bushfire took off when a controlled burn in the Cobaw Ranges jumped containment lines on October 6, and burned through the Walker property on its eastern boundary. It burned out more than 90% of the Walker property and threatened a number of local communities, burning through more than 3000 hectares before finally being brought under control.
