BAMBAZZLING THE BATSMEN
Markus "Baz" Harris had a weekend to remember for Moonee Valley on November 16 and 17.
Fresh from a five-wicket haul on the Ormond Park east oval on the Saturday in the first day of a two-day game in the Sixths, Markus changed ovals on the Sunday and doubled up in the Fourths.
He went even better - after scoring a half century in an unbeaten 95-run partnership to set up Moonee Valley against Brunswick, Baz took the ball and destroyed their top order in taking 5/43.
Given that Baz has played all his cricket on hard wickets in his home State of Tasmania, his performance on Fourths turf was even more remarkable. The win has kick-started the season for the Fourths.
Baz literally just walked in off the street for a game after moving to Melbourne, and with performances like this he'll be pushing the record books.
And as an added bonus he recruited his mate Mitchell Britton, who took a wicket on his debut with Moonee Valley on the Sunday.
While Baz led the show with his five wickets, Joshua Norsetter took 2/33 to give him 100 senior wickets at Moonee Valley - sensational going for a confident young man who's still playing Under 16s.
And while Baz and Josh were in the spotlight in the Fourths, Moonee Valley saw another promising debut on the eastern oval at the same time. Under 14s player Zac Nilsson had his first turn-out at senior cricket and took four of the six wickets to fall, including a sensational caught-and-bowled. And Zac was on a hat-trick at one stage.
Zac also scored 12no. His dad Tony, also making his debut for Moonee Valley wasn't so fortunate. He made a great tumbling stop in the field but fractured ribs in the process and could take no further part in the game.
