A Christmas message

A Christmas message

Merry Christmas to all Moonee Valley Cricket Club players, families, members and supporters and best wishes for a less stormy 2021.
We’re just finishing off an unprecedented year, with us all affected by the implications on health, emotional wellbeing and financial stability caused by the global pandemic, and its impact on our social interactions and day-to-day lives.
We can all look forward to 2021, but events in Sydney in the past few days demonstrate just how fragile the situation still is, and how easily we could all be plunged into another round of crisis.
It reiterates the vital importance of continuing to remain vigilant and to follow the requirements of sanitizing, social distancing and diligently recording our movements and contacts. We’ve got through half a season of cricket – a luxury that wasn’t possible for our colleagues who play winter sports – and God willing will be able to complete the second half without too much hassle.
Both senior and junior teams have had some promising results, and we hope this unprecedented season will be a springboard for good years ahead.
Our junior program is vital to our successful future, and this is best demonstrated with the fact that 10 of the 16 players who’ve played First Eleven for us this season have come through our juniors.
Pandemic restrictions cut in at the pointy end of the 2019/20 season, to the extent that we won the First Eleven Premiership in a game which was not able to be completed.
Our post-season was also cut off, and our presentation night cancelled.
We’re now in a position to reschedule our 2019/20 presentation night, and it will be held at our Ormond Park clubrooms on Saturday, January 30 at the completion of the day’s matches.
We will be able to formally acknowledge two new Life Members in Peter Golding and Allan Cumming, and celebrate the achievements and milestones of a season which reaped two premierships.
The night will be smart casual/semi formal, and we are encouraging partners to attend as it is one of our official club functions. Tickets are $30 a head, with the first drink free.
Book the date in your calendar now, and watch our website for more details as we get closer to the night.
Again, Merry Christmas and let’s look to a bright and optimistic 2021 as we work to shake off the scourge of coronavirus.
Charlie Walker.
President,
Moonee Valley Cricket Club
