2006/07 (Stats to end of 08/09)
A key link in the Club's junior development program, Steven has coached juniors for four seasons and been a one-day captain since our return to one-day cricket in 2003.
A return of more than 50 games, 700 runs and 76 wickets underlines a developing late-start career that has won Steven batting, bowling and fielding awards.
Stepped up a rung in the second half of 2006/07, moving into the two-day grades. Played as high as the Thirds, then settled into the Fourths for their finals campaign. Proved to be a more-than-handy back-up wicketkeeper.
Steven has become a permanent fixture in what is now our Fourths - previously the Sixths - and was a key part of the 2009/10 finals campaign which saw them go all the way to the Grand Final and come agonisingly close - just 26 runs shy of a flag.
Steven was one of our five Wisden Cricketers of the Year for 2005/06.
Steven's citation for Wisden Cricketer of the Year 2005/06 read:
As one of our junior parents and coaches, Steven has been a revelation since pulling on the whites himself with the return of one-day grades to Moonee Valley three seasons ago. One-day captain since the return, Steven has won our bowling award in each of the three seasons and the batting award in two. His 2005/06 returns of 286 runs @ 31.8 and 17 wickets @ 30.3 underline his consistency. Steven dropped back to the Sevenths to play in the historic Ian Denny 250th match, and also tried his hand in Moonee Valley’s One-Day Mid-Week Turf team. A great promoter of our juniors, Steven reached the 50-wicket mark during 05/06 and surged past 500 runs for the club. Next season will see the 50-game milestone reached, and there’s no reason why this ageless parent won’t keep on churning out the runs, wickets and games and setting targets for the youngsters coming through to try and chase down.
